Relationships

This episode I'm joined by Hunter Royall from the "A Sundered World" podcast to talk about all the different relationship vectors in TTRPGs. The first being that between player and character, and how it's not always affection that's garnered - often resentment or animosity can take hold when the PC isn't effective or ends up different than what the player originally imagined. Hunter takes us through how having all the PCs related in-game affects the dynamic of a traditional adventuring party. We also encourage players to take advantage of all those unique and fantastic NPCs your GM has undoubtedly thrown at you when thinking about character creation and backstories, as this can be a fantastic way to add depth and investment to your character.

of second edition

14
00:00:42,480 --> 00:00:46,480

16
00:00:46,480 --> 00:00:53,280
dm uh since third edition 3.5

17
00:00:50,160 --> 00:00:55,680
been through all the edition wars since

18
00:00:53,280 --> 00:00:57,680
while i do have a favorite that isn't

19
00:00:55,680 --> 00:00:59,920
my favorite is not uh fifth edition i

20
00:00:57,680 --> 00:01:02,160
love what fifth edition has done

21
00:00:59,920 --> 00:01:05,040
i could talk for hours on

22
00:01:02,160 --> 00:01:07,520
what i've learned about d and d

23
00:01:05,040 --> 00:01:08,799
i am the dm of a podcast live play in

24
00:01:07,520 --> 00:01:09,680
fifth edition

25
00:01:08,799 --> 00:01:12,560
for

26
00:01:09,680 --> 00:01:14,400
it's called asundered world it is set in

27
00:01:12,560 --> 00:01:16,400
the my uh

28
00:01:14,400 --> 00:01:18,400
my homebrew world of bueth it is the

29
00:01:16,400 --> 00:01:21,040
setting of the novel that i've published

30
00:01:18,400 --> 00:01:23,840
that i'm still in the process of trying

31
00:01:21,040 --> 00:01:25,520
to write the sequel for it's a setting

32
00:01:23,840 --> 00:01:29,439
that i have been

33
00:01:25,520 --> 00:01:30,960
trying to develop and get published for

34
00:01:29,439 --> 00:01:32,479
fifth edition

35
00:01:30,960 --> 00:01:34,320
pathfinder first and second edition

36
00:01:32,479 --> 00:01:35,439
couple other different uh mechanic

37
00:01:34,320 --> 00:01:36,880
systems

38
00:01:35,439 --> 00:01:40,000
for a little while

39
00:01:36,880 --> 00:01:42,399
and um the podcast kind of goes over

40
00:01:40,000 --> 00:01:44,960
more of the the past and the history of

41
00:01:42,399 --> 00:01:48,079
it that's we've got some patreon stuff

42
00:01:44,960 --> 00:01:50,000
that covers more of the the present and

43
00:01:48,079 --> 00:01:51,040
adventures and how things turn out from

44
00:01:50,000 --> 00:01:52,079
there

45
00:01:51,040 --> 00:01:54,479
i

46
00:01:52,079 --> 00:01:55,439
am a bit of a

47
00:01:54,479 --> 00:01:57,119
i

48
00:01:55,439 --> 00:01:58,079
i always feel i always feel awkward

49
00:01:57,119 --> 00:02:00,960
saying this but i am a bit of a

50
00:01:58,079 --> 00:02:01,840
renaissance man and that um

51
00:02:00,960 --> 00:02:03,520
because

52
00:02:01,840 --> 00:02:04,240
saying that just feels like i'm bragging

53
00:02:03,520 --> 00:02:06,159
um

54
00:02:04,240 --> 00:02:07,280
yeah if you do say so yourself yeah all

55
00:02:06,159 --> 00:02:09,840
right

56
00:02:07,280 --> 00:02:11,599
you know um but but yeah i'm a published

57
00:02:09,840 --> 00:02:13,760
author i have

58
00:02:11,599 --> 00:02:16,000
i i do have some artistic talent i'm

59
00:02:13,760 --> 00:02:18,319
actually doing some of the initial at

60
00:02:16,000 --> 00:02:20,560
least until i have the um

61
00:02:18,319 --> 00:02:23,120
i'm doing the basic artwork for

62
00:02:20,560 --> 00:02:24,959
the the setting book and hopefully i'll

63
00:02:23,120 --> 00:02:26,560
get you someone more professional when

64
00:02:24,959 --> 00:02:28,400
um i can

65
00:02:26,560 --> 00:02:30,400
you know get the money but

66
00:02:28,400 --> 00:02:33,040
i i currently work in healthcare as a

67
00:02:30,400 --> 00:02:36,319
nurse i have um

68
00:02:33,040 --> 00:02:38,319
i i've worked on automobiles before that

69
00:02:36,319 --> 00:02:41,120
so like my skills range all over the

70
00:02:38,319 --> 00:02:43,760
place so and i draw from all of that not

71
00:02:41,120 --> 00:02:45,680
only in my storytelling but in how i

72
00:02:43,760 --> 00:02:48,239
present my world and how i explain

73
00:02:45,680 --> 00:02:50,239
things and i like that's

74
00:02:48,239 --> 00:02:52,800
that's one of the reasons i chose our

75
00:02:50,239 --> 00:02:56,239
topic today to talk to you about

76
00:02:52,800 --> 00:02:57,920
thank you for that perfect segue

77
00:02:56,239 --> 00:02:58,110
i love it i love it when the guests do

78
00:02:57,920 --> 00:02:59,760
that

79
00:02:58,110 --> 00:03:02,159
[Laughter]

80
00:02:59,760 --> 00:03:03,920
talking of today's topic it is

81
00:03:02,159 --> 00:03:06,159
relationships so what does that mean to

82
00:03:03,920 --> 00:03:07,200
you in the dnd and why identity rpg

83
00:03:06,159 --> 00:03:08,080
framework

84
00:03:07,200 --> 00:03:09,920
it's

85
00:03:08,080 --> 00:03:12,400
multi-tiered

86
00:03:09,920 --> 00:03:14,560
primarily what it means is the

87
00:03:12,400 --> 00:03:15,599
relationship between

88
00:03:14,560 --> 00:03:19,519
the the

89
00:03:15,599 --> 00:03:21,200
dm side or storyteller or gm or

90
00:03:19,519 --> 00:03:24,239
whatever you call it based on whatever

91
00:03:21,200 --> 00:03:25,440
game you're playing and the players

92
00:03:24,239 --> 00:03:27,120
because

93
00:03:25,440 --> 00:03:28,239
you have to have

94
00:03:27,120 --> 00:03:29,519
a good

95
00:03:28,239 --> 00:03:30,480
clear

96
00:03:29,519 --> 00:03:33,599
mesh

97
00:03:30,480 --> 00:03:35,280
between those two settings in order for

98
00:03:33,599 --> 00:03:39,360
everybody to have fun

99
00:03:35,280 --> 00:03:41,519
but it's more than that it's how do your

100
00:03:39,360 --> 00:03:42,720
how do your player characters relate

101
00:03:41,519 --> 00:03:44,720
what are their relationships with the

102
00:03:42,720 --> 00:03:46,640
world itself that you're that you're

103
00:03:44,720 --> 00:03:48,640
telling i mean like are they

104
00:03:46,640 --> 00:03:50,480
truly the the main characters of the

105
00:03:48,640 --> 00:03:52,560
story are they just

106
00:03:50,480 --> 00:03:54,959
people that are interacting with the

107
00:03:52,560 --> 00:03:56,959
world you know it's

108
00:03:54,959 --> 00:03:59,040
if you're playing a fantasy game is it

109
00:03:56,959 --> 00:04:01,599
how does um

110
00:03:59,040 --> 00:04:04,400
you know what's the relationship of

111
00:04:01,599 --> 00:04:07,519
magic to the popular opinion what's the

112
00:04:04,400 --> 00:04:08,879
relationship of the gods of your world

113
00:04:07,519 --> 00:04:10,319
are not just their relationships with

114
00:04:08,879 --> 00:04:11,599
themselves but with the people that

115
00:04:10,319 --> 00:04:13,760
worship them

116
00:04:11,599 --> 00:04:16,880
it's what are the relationships of the

117
00:04:13,760 --> 00:04:19,840
races within said world

118
00:04:16,880 --> 00:04:22,240
you know um for some of the darker uh

119
00:04:19,840 --> 00:04:23,680
more uh you know the darker more modern

120
00:04:22,240 --> 00:04:25,919
settings like especially like in the

121
00:04:23,680 --> 00:04:27,680
white wolf world of darkness it's you

122
00:04:25,919 --> 00:04:30,320
know how do you

123
00:04:27,680 --> 00:04:33,120
play on the relationships between the

124
00:04:30,320 --> 00:04:35,440
the vampires in your in the the the your

125
00:04:33,120 --> 00:04:37,440
city under the masquerade how do you

126
00:04:35,440 --> 00:04:40,840
work with the relationships between the

127
00:04:37,440 --> 00:04:44,160
different werewolves in your pack etc

128
00:04:40,840 --> 00:04:47,280
etc and it's not just that but it's also

129
00:04:44,160 --> 00:04:49,360
relationships between the players and

130
00:04:47,280 --> 00:04:50,479
their care their own characters because

131
00:04:49,360 --> 00:04:52,000
of yeah

132
00:04:50,479 --> 00:04:53,840
you know they're going to be drawing on

133
00:04:52,000 --> 00:04:56,400
from their own experiences their own

134
00:04:53,840 --> 00:04:59,199
knowledge and putting that into their

135
00:04:56,400 --> 00:05:00,960
character and you know are

136
00:04:59,199 --> 00:05:02,479
are they meshing with their character do

137
00:05:00,960 --> 00:05:05,520
they have a good idea of what their

138
00:05:02,479 --> 00:05:06,960
character would do you know are they

139
00:05:05,520 --> 00:05:09,120
you know how well are they able to

140
00:05:06,960 --> 00:05:11,280
separate themselves and their knowledge

141
00:05:09,120 --> 00:05:13,440
from the character itself and what their

142
00:05:11,280 --> 00:05:15,680
character would do

143
00:05:13,440 --> 00:05:17,680
let's begin with that out of game well i

144
00:05:15,680 --> 00:05:20,720
say out of game it's a kind of related

145
00:05:17,680 --> 00:05:23,360
to the game but you know what i mean um

146
00:05:20,720 --> 00:05:24,320
out of universe relationships then i

147
00:05:23,360 --> 00:05:25,840
think that one you've just mentioned

148
00:05:24,320 --> 00:05:27,360
there between the player and the

149
00:05:25,840 --> 00:05:29,360
character is

150
00:05:27,360 --> 00:05:30,560
a really really really really good one

151
00:05:29,360 --> 00:05:32,639
and

152
00:05:30,560 --> 00:05:34,479
can sometimes

153
00:05:32,639 --> 00:05:36,000
i feel like be overlooked

154
00:05:34,479 --> 00:05:37,360
maybe that's not the right term but

155
00:05:36,000 --> 00:05:39,680
there's always

156
00:05:37,360 --> 00:05:41,520
in terms of like dms guides and players

157
00:05:39,680 --> 00:05:44,320
guides there's always a lot of focus on

158
00:05:41,520 --> 00:05:46,720
other bits like making sure your turn is

159
00:05:44,320 --> 00:05:49,680
ready in combat and understand what your

160
00:05:46,720 --> 00:05:52,080
character abilities are and for the dn

161
00:05:49,680 --> 00:05:53,759
like don't railroad and you know so on

162
00:05:52,080 --> 00:05:55,840
and so on and all that kind of stuff but

163
00:05:53,759 --> 00:05:57,280
i think there's a lot to be said there

164
00:05:55,840 --> 00:06:01,199
for

165
00:05:57,280 --> 00:06:02,560
that more it's the softer side of a

166
00:06:01,199 --> 00:06:04,479
player's relationship with their

167
00:06:02,560 --> 00:06:06,000
character like how they feel towards

168
00:06:04,479 --> 00:06:06,960
that character i've

169
00:06:06,000 --> 00:06:08,400
i

170
00:06:06,960 --> 00:06:10,080
certainly know

171
00:06:08,400 --> 00:06:11,680
play i mean there's players in my game

172
00:06:10,080 --> 00:06:14,639
that

173
00:06:11,680 --> 00:06:16,479
can also can sometimes uh towards like

174
00:06:14,639 --> 00:06:18,720
almost animosity or resentment towards

175
00:06:16,479 --> 00:06:20,080
their own characters in in a certain way

176
00:06:18,720 --> 00:06:22,639
in certain times either because they're

177
00:06:20,080 --> 00:06:24,479
not happy with how they're playing or

178
00:06:22,639 --> 00:06:26,960
how that character the build is

179
00:06:24,479 --> 00:06:29,919
performing so i think there's a lot

180
00:06:26,960 --> 00:06:32,080
there that's kind of hidden away in the

181
00:06:29,919 --> 00:06:33,919
in the in the periphery and the details

182
00:06:32,080 --> 00:06:35,360
that often doesn't get a spotlight shown

183
00:06:33,919 --> 00:06:36,960
in it so

184
00:06:35,360 --> 00:06:39,919
how you know have you got any experience

185
00:06:36,960 --> 00:06:41,440
there in in those kind of subtle details

186
00:06:39,919 --> 00:06:42,319
or any kind of interesting anecdotes

187
00:06:41,440 --> 00:06:44,560
where

188
00:06:42,319 --> 00:06:46,479
that has you know come to light or been

189
00:06:44,560 --> 00:06:48,479
an issue you know i don't have any

190
00:06:46,479 --> 00:06:51,120
anecdotes that readily come to mind but

191
00:06:48,479 --> 00:06:54,800
there is that is something that i take

192
00:06:51,120 --> 00:06:57,199
an active role in trying to um

193
00:06:54,800 --> 00:06:58,160
you know trying to to avoid especially

194
00:06:57,199 --> 00:06:59,840
you know with

195
00:06:58,160 --> 00:07:01,759
figuring out

196
00:06:59,840 --> 00:07:04,800
especially with new characters you know

197
00:07:01,759 --> 00:07:07,680
what's the best way for them to

198
00:07:04,800 --> 00:07:10,319
get into the game learn things

199
00:07:07,680 --> 00:07:12,639
without feeling like

200
00:07:10,319 --> 00:07:14,479
they made bad choices and feeling like

201
00:07:12,639 --> 00:07:15,280
they're stuck

202
00:07:14,479 --> 00:07:16,400
because

203
00:07:15,280 --> 00:07:19,360
one i

204
00:07:16,400 --> 00:07:22,639
generally um in my

205
00:07:19,360 --> 00:07:26,080
casual games i just

206
00:07:22,639 --> 00:07:28,639
if somebody's having problems with a

207
00:07:26,080 --> 00:07:31,120
with a character you know under

208
00:07:28,639 --> 00:07:33,199
most circumstances i am perfectly fine

209
00:07:31,120 --> 00:07:34,639
with them saying hey i'm just not having

210
00:07:33,199 --> 00:07:35,599
fun with this character

211
00:07:34,639 --> 00:07:37,919
can i

212
00:07:35,599 --> 00:07:39,919
retire them and move them and like as

213
00:07:37,919 --> 00:07:42,000
long as we haven't like

214
00:07:39,919 --> 00:07:44,639
cut off from the last session like right

215
00:07:42,000 --> 00:07:46,160
before boss fight or where you know

216
00:07:44,639 --> 00:07:48,319
you know something like that you know

217
00:07:46,160 --> 00:07:50,319
i'm like okay you know yeah let's go and

218
00:07:48,319 --> 00:07:51,840
work something out and what i do what i

219
00:07:50,319 --> 00:07:54,400
try to do is

220
00:07:51,840 --> 00:07:56,319
especially if i notice it one with

221
00:07:54,400 --> 00:07:57,360
somebody first creating a character and

222
00:07:56,319 --> 00:07:59,440
then

223
00:07:57,360 --> 00:08:01,919
if they are if i notice i'm not having

224
00:07:59,440 --> 00:08:03,759
fun with the character what i will i try

225
00:08:01,919 --> 00:08:06,319
to talk to them about it i try to figure

226
00:08:03,759 --> 00:08:08,720
out you know what are their goals

227
00:08:06,319 --> 00:08:09,919
for their character idea

228
00:08:08,720 --> 00:08:11,919
and

229
00:08:09,919 --> 00:08:13,840
especially with some of these characters

230
00:08:11,919 --> 00:08:15,199
there are a lot of concepts

231
00:08:13,840 --> 00:08:16,160
that

232
00:08:15,199 --> 00:08:17,840
uh

233
00:08:16,160 --> 00:08:21,680
well let me back up a little bit it's

234
00:08:17,840 --> 00:08:24,160
that d is a game with rules

235
00:08:21,680 --> 00:08:26,560
and yes as the dm we have final

236
00:08:24,160 --> 00:08:28,400
arbitration over that we can you know

237
00:08:26,560 --> 00:08:29,360
throw rules out or change them as we

238
00:08:28,400 --> 00:08:30,720
will

239
00:08:29,360 --> 00:08:32,240
but the rules provide a kind of a

240
00:08:30,720 --> 00:08:34,399
structure so

241
00:08:32,240 --> 00:08:37,599
they become and the rules only have a

242
00:08:34,399 --> 00:08:39,279
limited framework for things within

243
00:08:37,599 --> 00:08:40,719
for things within the rules and how you

244
00:08:39,279 --> 00:08:43,279
can build a character

245
00:08:40,719 --> 00:08:45,519
now that obviously doesn't make it

246
00:08:43,279 --> 00:08:47,440
it only makes it theoretically open to

247
00:08:45,519 --> 00:08:49,839
every concept that you could have

248
00:08:47,440 --> 00:08:52,480
so you i have to talk with the players

249
00:08:49,839 --> 00:08:54,480
and like okay i want to make a rogue but

250
00:08:52,480 --> 00:08:56,720
instead of

251
00:08:54,480 --> 00:08:58,720
like i i want to have like this

252
00:08:56,720 --> 00:09:00,880
particular background or something

253
00:08:58,720 --> 00:09:01,839
that's not really covered by anything

254
00:09:00,880 --> 00:09:04,640
and

255
00:09:01,839 --> 00:09:06,560
i kind of wanted him to be you know like

256
00:09:04,640 --> 00:09:08,080
this

257
00:09:06,560 --> 00:09:10,240
maybe they'll pick a character from

258
00:09:08,080 --> 00:09:12,800
popular culture that they want to kind

259
00:09:10,240 --> 00:09:14,959
of emulate that doesn't really fit the

260
00:09:12,800 --> 00:09:16,160
rogue class but it's the only one that

261
00:09:14,959 --> 00:09:17,839
kind of

262
00:09:16,160 --> 00:09:19,120
but it doesn't but it fits all the

263
00:09:17,839 --> 00:09:22,240
others even less

264
00:09:19,120 --> 00:09:25,360
so sometimes it's it's as easy as oh

265
00:09:22,240 --> 00:09:27,680
okay yeah that character is primarily

266
00:09:25,360 --> 00:09:29,920
rogue but with fighter levels so why

267
00:09:27,680 --> 00:09:32,080
don't you go and okay we're starting at

268
00:09:29,920 --> 00:09:34,160
level five anyway so make yourself a

269
00:09:32,080 --> 00:09:36,880
level three rogue with this

270
00:09:34,160 --> 00:09:39,360
this particular specialization and then

271
00:09:36,880 --> 00:09:42,080
throw in a couple levels of fighter

272
00:09:39,360 --> 00:09:46,080
to kind of add everything to it

273
00:09:42,080 --> 00:09:48,080
or it's like oh you want to play a

274
00:09:46,080 --> 00:09:50,880
like a character wants to play kind of a

275
00:09:48,080 --> 00:09:52,800
sun soul monk but they want to have more

276
00:09:50,880 --> 00:09:54,880
of a dragon ball z

277
00:09:52,800 --> 00:09:56,800
you know style to it okay well we can

278
00:09:54,880 --> 00:09:58,480
change instead of radiant damage we can

279
00:09:56,800 --> 00:10:01,360
just change your little

280
00:09:58,480 --> 00:10:02,160
uh key blast to force and then maybe we

281
00:10:01,360 --> 00:10:05,440
can

282
00:10:02,160 --> 00:10:07,760
at later on we'll go and trade out

283
00:10:05,440 --> 00:10:09,519
this class ability for the ability for

284
00:10:07,760 --> 00:10:12,079
you to like spend a key point and then

285
00:10:09,519 --> 00:10:14,640
you get like 10 minutes of flight or

286
00:10:12,079 --> 00:10:16,959
whatever you know so that you know and

287
00:10:14,640 --> 00:10:19,760
that way that gives them you know

288
00:10:16,959 --> 00:10:22,480
that helps get your characters more

289
00:10:19,760 --> 00:10:24,560
involved one if they feel like they have

290
00:10:22,480 --> 00:10:27,279
more control over customizing the

291
00:10:24,560 --> 00:10:29,680
character and you know making that

292
00:10:27,279 --> 00:10:32,560
character theirs yeah then they have a

293
00:10:29,680 --> 00:10:36,160
stronger relationship with the character

294
00:10:32,560 --> 00:10:38,399
it also means that they feel it empowers

295
00:10:36,160 --> 00:10:41,440
them it makes them feel more in control

296
00:10:38,399 --> 00:10:43,120
and that way it also increases makes it

297
00:10:41,440 --> 00:10:45,440
a better relationship

298
00:10:43,120 --> 00:10:47,600
with you as the dm so that way when you

299
00:10:45,440 --> 00:10:50,399
do have to make the the hard decisions

300
00:10:47,600 --> 00:10:52,880
and like uh you can't really

301
00:10:50,399 --> 00:10:55,760
do that with this skill or you can do

302
00:10:52,880 --> 00:10:56,720
that but it's gonna be really difficult

303
00:10:55,760 --> 00:10:59,200
you know

304
00:10:56,720 --> 00:11:00,959
that way they're they're less likely to

305
00:10:59,200 --> 00:11:02,720
cause arguments it's more they're more

306
00:11:00,959 --> 00:11:05,600
likely to roll with it and try and find

307
00:11:02,720 --> 00:11:08,240
more creative ways it's that also gives

308
00:11:05,600 --> 00:11:10,399
you a better way to understand their

309
00:11:08,240 --> 00:11:13,360
character and help them

310
00:11:10,399 --> 00:11:15,200
find like even suggest creative ways of

311
00:11:13,360 --> 00:11:17,680
dealing with the situation

312
00:11:15,200 --> 00:11:19,440
that their characters may

313
00:11:17,680 --> 00:11:21,839
may have had something come to mind but

314
00:11:19,440 --> 00:11:25,279
they as a player might not because

315
00:11:21,839 --> 00:11:26,640
that's you know they're different people

316
00:11:25,279 --> 00:11:29,519
yeah that that last thing that you

317
00:11:26,640 --> 00:11:31,360
mentioned is incredibly difficult to uh

318
00:11:29,519 --> 00:11:32,399
to manage both from a player and a dm's

319
00:11:31,360 --> 00:11:34,079
perspective

320
00:11:32,399 --> 00:11:36,240
but that that kind of hand not hand

321
00:11:34,079 --> 00:11:39,279
holding but mentoring or guiding i

322
00:11:36,240 --> 00:11:41,680
suppose from the dm's point of view is

323
00:11:39,279 --> 00:11:43,040
like super important and it's a failing

324
00:11:41,680 --> 00:11:44,320
that i've had in the past i mentioned

325
00:11:43,040 --> 00:11:46,240
before on the show about a couple of my

326
00:11:44,320 --> 00:11:47,839
newer players building

327
00:11:46,240 --> 00:11:49,920
characters you know i offered my

328
00:11:47,839 --> 00:11:52,800
services but then they pretty much built

329
00:11:49,920 --> 00:11:55,279
them in in isolation to a certain extent

330
00:11:52,800 --> 00:11:57,519
and so i've you know i've got a druid

331
00:11:55,279 --> 00:11:59,920
player who had a very strong

332
00:11:57,519 --> 00:12:01,360
vision first time into d very strong

333
00:11:59,920 --> 00:12:02,880
vision like you were describing i kind

334
00:12:01,360 --> 00:12:04,320
of want to i want to

335
00:12:02,880 --> 00:12:07,680
this is the vision and theme i want for

336
00:12:04,320 --> 00:12:11,120
my character i guess a druid best fits

337
00:12:07,680 --> 00:12:12,639
that it was that way round which

338
00:12:11,120 --> 00:12:14,000
for from my personal point of view if i

339
00:12:12,639 --> 00:12:16,000
when i'm building characters a little

340
00:12:14,000 --> 00:12:18,399
bit cut for horse

341
00:12:16,000 --> 00:12:20,000
so that combined with

342
00:12:18,399 --> 00:12:23,760
you know learning the rules learning the

343
00:12:20,000 --> 00:12:24,720
framework learning the scope what is and

344
00:12:23,760 --> 00:12:25,839
isn't

345
00:12:24,720 --> 00:12:27,279
practical

346
00:12:25,839 --> 00:12:28,560
has led to a number of instances when

347
00:12:27,279 --> 00:12:31,120
he's

348
00:12:28,560 --> 00:12:33,279
quite clearly forlorn

349
00:12:31,120 --> 00:12:35,680
for for lack of a better term in terms

350
00:12:33,279 --> 00:12:37,680
of like i i've had to be like that thing

351
00:12:35,680 --> 00:12:39,600
doesn't really work that way

352
00:12:37,680 --> 00:12:41,120
for reasons that will take

353
00:12:39,600 --> 00:12:42,800
too long in the middle of the game to

354
00:12:41,120 --> 00:12:44,480
explain but

355
00:12:42,800 --> 00:12:47,440
needless to say you can't you can't just

356
00:12:44,480 --> 00:12:48,480
do that or you can't just do this or

357
00:12:47,440 --> 00:12:50,560
that doesn't really work that way but

358
00:12:48,480 --> 00:12:53,040
you can do it this way instead and those

359
00:12:50,560 --> 00:12:55,040
instances have caused

360
00:12:53,040 --> 00:12:56,399
never any friction and the guy you know

361
00:12:55,040 --> 00:12:58,000
we get along super well and stuff but

362
00:12:56,399 --> 00:12:59,519
there has been instances and that's kind

363
00:12:58,000 --> 00:13:00,639
of what i was alluding to earlier on

364
00:12:59,519 --> 00:13:02,160
where he's

365
00:13:00,639 --> 00:13:03,839
maybe i'm reading a bit too much between

366
00:13:02,160 --> 00:13:05,120
the lines but it did feel like in a set

367
00:13:03,839 --> 00:13:06,720
of certain

368
00:13:05,120 --> 00:13:08,160
cases he was getting a bit frustrated

369
00:13:06,720 --> 00:13:09,839
with this this character that he's built

370
00:13:08,160 --> 00:13:12,079
that isn't quite like living up to the

371
00:13:09,839 --> 00:13:14,480
expectation he had in his head which is

372
00:13:12,079 --> 00:13:16,720
difficult uh and in a way

373
00:13:14,480 --> 00:13:17,839
now that that player character has died

374
00:13:16,720 --> 00:13:19,760
uh

375
00:13:17,839 --> 00:13:22,240
is kind of good

376
00:13:19,760 --> 00:13:24,079
that he has an opportunity now to uh

377
00:13:22,240 --> 00:13:26,240
to build something from scratch again

378
00:13:24,079 --> 00:13:28,079
with all that you know three years worth

379
00:13:26,240 --> 00:13:30,079
of gaming knowledge behind him

380
00:13:28,079 --> 00:13:32,959
to build something that's

381
00:13:30,079 --> 00:13:35,839
a v 2.0 and should hopefully he should

382
00:13:32,959 --> 00:13:36,880
have a uh i mean it was already a good

383
00:13:35,839 --> 00:13:38,959
relationship so i don't want to say a

384
00:13:36,880 --> 00:13:41,199
better relationship but a more effective

385
00:13:38,959 --> 00:13:45,519
relationship shall we say yeah

386
00:13:41,199 --> 00:13:46,399
efficiency is is the i guess is a better

387
00:13:45,519 --> 00:13:47,760
um

388
00:13:46,399 --> 00:13:49,440
it does it i mean

389
00:13:47,760 --> 00:13:51,360
it's not really a bad thing to say the

390
00:13:49,440 --> 00:13:53,040
relationship is better um because that

391
00:13:51,360 --> 00:13:54,560
just means that okay you've recognized

392
00:13:53,040 --> 00:13:57,040
where the flaws were and you've worked

393
00:13:54,560 --> 00:13:58,639
to uh to overcome those difficulties and

394
00:13:57,040 --> 00:14:00,639
that's that's always a better thing um

395
00:13:58,639 --> 00:14:01,920
my background i forgot to mention my

396
00:14:00,639 --> 00:14:05,839
background particularly in nursing is

397
00:14:01,920 --> 00:14:07,120
mental health so this is kind of a

398
00:14:05,839 --> 00:14:09,360
um

399
00:14:07,120 --> 00:14:11,519
yeah so there's going to be a lot of um

400
00:14:09,360 --> 00:14:13,839
you know anybody who's been to therapy

401
00:14:11,519 --> 00:14:15,760
is going to occasionally

402
00:14:13,839 --> 00:14:19,360
recognize like you're saying things

403
00:14:15,760 --> 00:14:21,040
certain in a certain way um but it

404
00:14:19,360 --> 00:14:22,639
i mean there's

405
00:14:21,040 --> 00:14:26,000
the problem with

406
00:14:22,639 --> 00:14:30,160
like being a good dm is that

407
00:14:26,000 --> 00:14:32,800
most of it has to be self-taught because

408
00:14:30,160 --> 00:14:34,000
you can you can watch every

409
00:14:32,800 --> 00:14:37,040
youtube

410
00:14:34,000 --> 00:14:38,959
how-to guide on how to be a good dm or

411
00:14:37,040 --> 00:14:41,360
like the you know these are all the

412
00:14:38,959 --> 00:14:44,079
signs of a bad dm and like learn

413
00:14:41,360 --> 00:14:46,560
everything you can you can ask other dms

414
00:14:44,079 --> 00:14:48,000
for advice all the time but the thing is

415
00:14:46,560 --> 00:14:49,519
each game

416
00:14:48,000 --> 00:14:52,480
is its own

417
00:14:49,519 --> 00:14:55,440
separate thing and each batch of players

418
00:14:52,480 --> 00:14:56,639
are their own individual people

419
00:14:55,440 --> 00:14:59,440
and

420
00:14:56,639 --> 00:15:01,680
they don't always like even

421
00:14:59,440 --> 00:15:04,160
even from game to game like even if you

422
00:15:01,680 --> 00:15:07,120
have like the same group and you finish

423
00:15:04,160 --> 00:15:09,199
one campaign you start another

424
00:15:07,120 --> 00:15:11,519
like they're not necessarily going to be

425
00:15:09,199 --> 00:15:13,279
the exact same in that second campaign

426
00:15:11,519 --> 00:15:15,440
that they are in the first one

427
00:15:13,279 --> 00:15:17,920
so there's only so much you can learn

428
00:15:15,440 --> 00:15:20,959
most of it has to come from

429
00:15:17,920 --> 00:15:22,480
you know you actually experiencing

430
00:15:20,959 --> 00:15:23,839
being in the dm's chair and

431
00:15:22,480 --> 00:15:25,680
understanding

432
00:15:23,839 --> 00:15:28,240
you know learning to pick up the cues

433
00:15:25,680 --> 00:15:30,560
and figure out okay you know where do we

434
00:15:28,240 --> 00:15:32,880
go from here or you know

435
00:15:30,560 --> 00:15:35,199
a lot of times it's not just asking the

436
00:15:32,880 --> 00:15:37,440
question of hey is everybody having fun

437
00:15:35,199 --> 00:15:39,279
but knowing how to ask that question

438
00:15:37,440 --> 00:15:42,880
because indeed you know because

439
00:15:39,279 --> 00:15:44,880
sometimes like people will go and

440
00:15:42,880 --> 00:15:48,079
uh they'll go and you ask them and

441
00:15:44,880 --> 00:15:50,560
they're like well yeah overall i had fun

442
00:15:48,079 --> 00:15:54,240
but you know if you if

443
00:15:50,560 --> 00:15:56,000
sometimes like you can miss cues and

444
00:15:54,240 --> 00:15:57,279
yeah um you know and there are times

445
00:15:56,000 --> 00:15:59,600
when you think a relationship is good

446
00:15:57,279 --> 00:16:01,360
and it's not and you just

447
00:15:59,600 --> 00:16:03,279
it's not until it blows up in your face

448
00:16:01,360 --> 00:16:05,120
that suddenly you realize oh crap this

449
00:16:03,279 --> 00:16:07,040
is where i should have you know this is

450
00:16:05,120 --> 00:16:08,160
where i misstep this is where i should

451
00:16:07,040 --> 00:16:10,160
have changed things this is where i

452
00:16:08,160 --> 00:16:11,759
should have asked you know more in-depth

453
00:16:10,160 --> 00:16:13,199
questions or

454
00:16:11,759 --> 00:16:15,600
i think yeah i think

455
00:16:13,199 --> 00:16:18,639
well you put it really well and knowing

456
00:16:15,600 --> 00:16:20,000
how to ask that question is

457
00:16:18,639 --> 00:16:22,880
incredibly difficult but incredibly

458
00:16:20,000 --> 00:16:24,880
useful and maybe this is more maybe the

459
00:16:22,880 --> 00:16:27,199
you know this is a cultural thing with

460
00:16:24,880 --> 00:16:28,959
us british being very polite but that is

461
00:16:27,199 --> 00:16:30,320
that happens a lot you know are you okay

462
00:16:28,959 --> 00:16:32,720
yeah i'm fine

463
00:16:30,320 --> 00:16:34,800
when inside that that person is not fine

464
00:16:32,720 --> 00:16:36,399
you know that isn't a dnd thing that's

465
00:16:34,800 --> 00:16:37,839
just a life thing

466
00:16:36,399 --> 00:16:39,680
certainly over here so it's very easy to

467
00:16:37,839 --> 00:16:41,920
do someone having fun yeah man that's

468
00:16:39,680 --> 00:16:43,360
fun you know i had fun you know they're

469
00:16:41,920 --> 00:16:44,560
thinking this guy spent a lot of time on

470
00:16:43,360 --> 00:16:46,399
it so let me

471
00:16:44,560 --> 00:16:48,160
you know just tell them it was fine

472
00:16:46,399 --> 00:16:50,720
even though maybe he wasn't having a lot

473
00:16:48,160 --> 00:16:53,360
of fun uh so you know just just saying

474
00:16:50,720 --> 00:16:55,600
are you having fun is can can not be

475
00:16:53,360 --> 00:16:57,360
very effective in that

476
00:16:55,600 --> 00:16:58,800
well you're leading the witness a little

477
00:16:57,360 --> 00:17:00,639
bit because you're saying

478
00:16:58,800 --> 00:17:04,640
you're not what's it's a loaded question

479
00:17:00,639 --> 00:17:06,400
right yeah are you having fun well yeah

480
00:17:04,640 --> 00:17:07,360
because that's way easier than any other

481
00:17:06,400 --> 00:17:08,640
answer

482
00:17:07,360 --> 00:17:10,160
whereas at least the step in the right

483
00:17:08,640 --> 00:17:11,679
direction is you know

484
00:17:10,160 --> 00:17:13,839
how are you enjoying it i guess off the

485
00:17:11,679 --> 00:17:15,360
top of my head is maybe ever so slightly

486
00:17:13,839 --> 00:17:17,520
better but still has the same problems

487
00:17:15,360 --> 00:17:19,039
but yeah no i'm not about to solve that

488
00:17:17,520 --> 00:17:19,919
off the top of my head now but no that

489
00:17:19,039 --> 00:17:22,079
is

490
00:17:19,919 --> 00:17:23,280
something that i've struggled with and

491
00:17:22,079 --> 00:17:25,760
even if

492
00:17:23,280 --> 00:17:27,120
even if all the answers are genuinely

493
00:17:25,760 --> 00:17:28,880
yes

494
00:17:27,120 --> 00:17:31,280
that self-doubt that impostor syndrome

495
00:17:28,880 --> 00:17:32,400
is screaming at you they're lying

496
00:17:31,280 --> 00:17:34,240
yeah

497
00:17:32,400 --> 00:17:35,679
then they're not having fun because he

498
00:17:34,240 --> 00:17:37,919
sneezed once when we were playing and

499
00:17:35,679 --> 00:17:40,480
only unhappy people would sneeze so

500
00:17:37,919 --> 00:17:40,480
i'm terrible

501
00:17:40,640 --> 00:17:42,480
uh

502
00:17:41,440 --> 00:17:45,919
yeah i

503
00:17:42,480 --> 00:17:48,960
that's that's one thing that i have been

504
00:17:45,919 --> 00:17:51,360
super uh critical on myself with the the

505
00:17:48,960 --> 00:17:54,400
podcast because

506
00:17:51,360 --> 00:17:55,520
with a casual game you know there's

507
00:17:54,400 --> 00:17:57,200
you can reach a point where like

508
00:17:55,520 --> 00:17:59,760
everybody's like uh yeah we're having

509
00:17:57,200 --> 00:18:01,360
fun but this just kinda isn't our thing

510
00:17:59,760 --> 00:18:04,080
and you can just toss the whole thing

511
00:18:01,360 --> 00:18:05,679
out and say like okay well this is a fun

512
00:18:04,080 --> 00:18:07,280
idea but i guess it just doesn't work

513
00:18:05,679 --> 00:18:08,880
with this group or i'll have to table it

514
00:18:07,280 --> 00:18:09,760
for later maybe i've got to like you

515
00:18:08,880 --> 00:18:11,360
know

516
00:18:09,760 --> 00:18:13,600
we'll go and shelve it for now and see

517
00:18:11,360 --> 00:18:15,120
if i can like rework it to be better for

518
00:18:13,600 --> 00:18:16,720
this group or whatever

519
00:18:15,120 --> 00:18:18,480
with the podcast

520
00:18:16,720 --> 00:18:19,280
i can't do that

521
00:18:18,480 --> 00:18:22,320
so

522
00:18:19,280 --> 00:18:23,840
the majority of my conversations with my

523
00:18:22,320 --> 00:18:26,000
players have been

524
00:18:23,840 --> 00:18:28,720
trying to figure out where they want to

525
00:18:26,000 --> 00:18:30,799
go with their characters being heavily

526
00:18:28,720 --> 00:18:32,400
involved in

527
00:18:30,799 --> 00:18:34,960
trying to write

528
00:18:32,400 --> 00:18:35,919
plot lines tailored to them

529
00:18:34,960 --> 00:18:38,799
that

530
00:18:35,919 --> 00:18:41,360
really give them time to role play to

531
00:18:38,799 --> 00:18:42,720
explore what they're doing

532
00:18:41,360 --> 00:18:44,640
figure out more about their characters

533
00:18:42,720 --> 00:18:46,799
and their connection to the world

534
00:18:44,640 --> 00:18:49,600
you know i want to go and get i try to

535
00:18:46,799 --> 00:18:51,360
keep them involved i give them input

536
00:18:49,600 --> 00:18:54,720
currently

537
00:18:51,360 --> 00:18:57,360
we just finished up season 2 recording

538
00:18:54,720 --> 00:18:59,679
and you know like i i want to you know

539
00:18:57,360 --> 00:19:01,760
the next season of course i want uh you

540
00:18:59,679 --> 00:19:03,280
know to focus more on a couple of

541
00:19:01,760 --> 00:19:04,880
characters because there are two

542
00:19:03,280 --> 00:19:09,039
characters that got

543
00:19:04,880 --> 00:19:11,679
a lot of screen time um in the this past

544
00:19:09,039 --> 00:19:13,919
season just because of how i built the

545
00:19:11,679 --> 00:19:15,440
plot lines to kind of like bring them

546
00:19:13,919 --> 00:19:16,559
you know bring the party into this

547
00:19:15,440 --> 00:19:17,600
adventure

548
00:19:16,559 --> 00:19:20,559
and

549
00:19:17,600 --> 00:19:22,320
like and the one before i kind of gave a

550
00:19:20,559 --> 00:19:24,000
lot of screen time to a couple of other

551
00:19:22,320 --> 00:19:26,080
two because of how every you know how

552
00:19:24,000 --> 00:19:29,520
they interacted with the world

553
00:19:26,080 --> 00:19:31,200
and i want to build the next plot line

554
00:19:29,520 --> 00:19:32,640
you know kind of like there were two

555
00:19:31,200 --> 00:19:33,840
they were the final two characters

556
00:19:32,640 --> 00:19:36,559
haven't really

557
00:19:33,840 --> 00:19:38,400
gotten to have but so much interaction

558
00:19:36,559 --> 00:19:40,400
with the world haven't really you know

559
00:19:38,400 --> 00:19:42,240
other than what they've you know what

560
00:19:40,400 --> 00:19:43,520
i've tried to throw their way throughout

561
00:19:42,240 --> 00:19:44,799
everything else

562
00:19:43,520 --> 00:19:47,039
you know that they haven't really gotten

563
00:19:44,799 --> 00:19:49,360
much to really display like where their

564
00:19:47,039 --> 00:19:50,960
characters are what you know who and who

565
00:19:49,360 --> 00:19:53,520
their characters are

566
00:19:50,960 --> 00:19:56,000
so i've been talking with them

567
00:19:53,520 --> 00:19:57,520
and trying to figure out okay

568
00:19:56,000 --> 00:19:58,799
where do you want to go with this what

569
00:19:57,520 --> 00:20:00,480
do you want to explore with your

570
00:19:58,799 --> 00:20:02,960
character is there anything in

571
00:20:00,480 --> 00:20:04,480
particular about the world you want to

572
00:20:02,960 --> 00:20:06,159
know about you want to do with your

573
00:20:04,480 --> 00:20:07,919
characters or anything in particular

574
00:20:06,159 --> 00:20:09,200
like is there any kind of lore you want

575
00:20:07,919 --> 00:20:12,400
to explore

576
00:20:09,200 --> 00:20:14,000
do you want to do geography you know

577
00:20:12,400 --> 00:20:15,760
this that and the other just trying to

578
00:20:14,000 --> 00:20:18,159
make sure that

579
00:20:15,760 --> 00:20:20,480
they're not feeling left out

580
00:20:18,159 --> 00:20:22,159
that they are getting the same amount of

581
00:20:20,480 --> 00:20:23,840
interaction with the world that

582
00:20:22,159 --> 00:20:25,760
everybody else is that they're not

583
00:20:23,840 --> 00:20:28,400
having to make it up themselves that i'm

584
00:20:25,760 --> 00:20:29,600
giving them as many prompts as everybody

585
00:20:28,400 --> 00:20:33,039
else

586
00:20:29,600 --> 00:20:35,520
and that has really been i feel has been

587
00:20:33,039 --> 00:20:37,919
a bigger test of my skills as a dm than

588
00:20:35,520 --> 00:20:39,919
anything else because

589
00:20:37,919 --> 00:20:40,960
one it gives you having doing this it

590
00:20:39,919 --> 00:20:42,480
gives me

591
00:20:40,960 --> 00:20:44,400
a lot of perspective

592
00:20:42,480 --> 00:20:46,080
behind the scenes because i

593
00:20:44,400 --> 00:20:48,480
before i decided to do this i had been

594
00:20:46,080 --> 00:20:50,480
listening to a couple of different

595
00:20:48,480 --> 00:20:53,840
live play podcasts

596
00:20:50,480 --> 00:20:55,520
for a decent amount of chunk of time and

597
00:20:53,840 --> 00:20:56,960
i i'm sitting there and i'm listening to

598
00:20:55,520 --> 00:20:59,760
how

599
00:20:56,960 --> 00:21:02,720
everything flows together and how like

600
00:20:59,760 --> 00:21:04,480
all the characters work together and how

601
00:21:02,720 --> 00:21:06,799
everybody kind of seems to sounds like

602
00:21:04,480 --> 00:21:07,919
they're getting along and suddenly and

603
00:21:06,799 --> 00:21:09,280
then

604
00:21:07,919 --> 00:21:11,440
you know when i start doing it myself

605
00:21:09,280 --> 00:21:13,760
suddenly realize oh there's that's just

606
00:21:11,440 --> 00:21:15,840
the tip of that iceberg there is so much

607
00:21:13,760 --> 00:21:16,720
underneath that you know i just never

608
00:21:15,840 --> 00:21:18,799
even

609
00:21:16,720 --> 00:21:20,960
you know like i had an idea of what

610
00:21:18,799 --> 00:21:22,320
editing editing all the audio was going

611
00:21:20,960 --> 00:21:23,600
to be like i didn't know what it was

612
00:21:22,320 --> 00:21:25,280
going to be like until i actually

613
00:21:23,600 --> 00:21:27,919
started mm-hmm

614
00:21:25,280 --> 00:21:29,440
that that is a pain i know and and very

615
00:21:27,919 --> 00:21:31,280
recent because we've just had the

616
00:21:29,440 --> 00:21:33,280
episode on editing funnily enough on the

617
00:21:31,280 --> 00:21:36,000
show which talks all about the joys of

618
00:21:33,280 --> 00:21:37,679
that particular issue there

619
00:21:36,000 --> 00:21:39,200
starting from scratch as well i've been

620
00:21:37,679 --> 00:21:41,760
debating about listening to that one

621
00:21:39,200 --> 00:21:44,000
because i was like is this going to just

622
00:21:41,760 --> 00:21:46,400
is this going to cause some ptsd for me

623
00:21:44,000 --> 00:21:48,080
or is this you know

624
00:21:46,400 --> 00:21:50,799
so it's it's a funny anecdote we're

625
00:21:48,080 --> 00:21:52,640
digressing uh for a second but um so

626
00:21:50,799 --> 00:21:54,080
obviously i produce and edit this and

627
00:21:52,640 --> 00:21:57,280
it's

628
00:21:54,080 --> 00:21:59,520
not too bad now it's two clean tracks

629
00:21:57,280 --> 00:22:01,760
from you know my my solar audio guest

630
00:21:59,520 --> 00:22:04,960
solar audio in isolation typically in a

631
00:22:01,760 --> 00:22:06,400
a pretty decent space um not like an

632
00:22:04,960 --> 00:22:07,360
aircraft hangar or

633
00:22:06,400 --> 00:22:09,840
whatever

634
00:22:07,360 --> 00:22:11,840
and i've learned a lot and do my effects

635
00:22:09,840 --> 00:22:14,960
and improvements and post-production and

636
00:22:11,840 --> 00:22:18,159
so on and so on um and then i

637
00:22:14,960 --> 00:22:20,080
i also play in a podcast actual play but

638
00:22:18,159 --> 00:22:21,440
i very much do as little as possible

639
00:22:20,080 --> 00:22:23,919
than that because

640
00:22:21,440 --> 00:22:25,360
i'm like i just want to enjoy the fact

641
00:22:23,919 --> 00:22:26,559
that we're playing and

642
00:22:25,360 --> 00:22:27,600
you guys can worry about the podcast

643
00:22:26,559 --> 00:22:28,960
side of things because i have to worry

644
00:22:27,600 --> 00:22:30,000
about that enough

645
00:22:28,960 --> 00:22:32,000
as it is

646
00:22:30,000 --> 00:22:34,159
um but then i thought hey like i've got

647
00:22:32,000 --> 00:22:36,960
my fx chains set up i've got my you know

648
00:22:34,159 --> 00:22:38,640
my my dw set up and whatnot so

649
00:22:36,960 --> 00:22:41,200
the last episode i said hey before you

650
00:22:38,640 --> 00:22:42,799
go and cut out all the garbage bits that

651
00:22:41,200 --> 00:22:44,960
we don't want in in the episode and do

652
00:22:42,799 --> 00:22:46,640
the actual cutting

653
00:22:44,960 --> 00:22:48,320
you know onto the shop floor why don't

654
00:22:46,640 --> 00:22:50,480
you hand it over to me and let me do a

655
00:22:48,320 --> 00:22:52,240
quick pass and fill it with a couple of

656
00:22:50,480 --> 00:22:54,559
the levels in the eq and whatnot and

657
00:22:52,240 --> 00:22:56,559
then i got it and

658
00:22:54,559 --> 00:22:58,880
this is such a classic example of like

659
00:22:56,559 --> 00:23:01,120
my naivety because i was like oh yeah

660
00:22:58,880 --> 00:23:02,480
hang on you've got one because we're you

661
00:23:01,120 --> 00:23:05,039
know it's it's all

662
00:23:02,480 --> 00:23:07,120
homemade there's no any person

663
00:23:05,039 --> 00:23:10,080
there's no studio or whatever we have we

664
00:23:07,120 --> 00:23:11,600
have one mic for the six of us in the

665
00:23:10,080 --> 00:23:13,600
dude's kitchen

666
00:23:11,600 --> 00:23:17,360
so uh music coming out the laptop

667
00:23:13,600 --> 00:23:19,679
speaker somewhere so i was like oh yeah

668
00:23:17,360 --> 00:23:21,760
this is way outside there's no i could

669
00:23:19,679 --> 00:23:23,440
do nothing to clean up this audio i put

670
00:23:21,760 --> 00:23:24,159
it you know i boosted the audio a little

671
00:23:23,440 --> 00:23:26,640
bit

672
00:23:24,159 --> 00:23:28,159
but uh you know leveled the uh the range

673
00:23:26,640 --> 00:23:30,640
the audio range and then run it through

674
00:23:28,159 --> 00:23:32,400
an eq but then i was like yeah actually

675
00:23:30,640 --> 00:23:34,240
i'm just gonna leave this to you because

676
00:23:32,400 --> 00:23:36,159
it's also six hours and there's no way

677
00:23:34,240 --> 00:23:38,240
i'm going through that so

678
00:23:36,159 --> 00:23:40,320
i just kind of pushed pushed that back

679
00:23:38,240 --> 00:23:42,159
over to you uh as i barely put the

680
00:23:40,320 --> 00:23:44,559
lightest of touches on it but i think it

681
00:23:42,159 --> 00:23:46,159
did make a slight improvement but uh no

682
00:23:44,559 --> 00:23:48,080
i'm i'm

683
00:23:46,159 --> 00:23:49,520
you know going back to editing my show

684
00:23:48,080 --> 00:23:51,279
i'm like oh this is this is my safe

685
00:23:49,520 --> 00:23:53,679
space i know what i'm doing two tracks

686
00:23:51,279 --> 00:23:55,440
nice and clean just to display calls no

687
00:23:53,679 --> 00:23:56,880
no messing around so anyway apologies to

688
00:23:55,440 --> 00:23:59,600
that distraction but it was literally

689
00:23:56,880 --> 00:24:01,760
happened yesterday so it's uh very

690
00:23:59,600 --> 00:24:04,000
very fresh in your mind yeah yeah you

691
00:24:01,760 --> 00:24:04,660
way way underestimated how dirty that

692
00:24:04,000 --> 00:24:06,559
track would be

693
00:24:04,660 --> 00:24:07,919
[Laughter]

694
00:24:06,559 --> 00:24:09,440
yeah well

695
00:24:07,919 --> 00:24:11,279
yeah that

696
00:24:09,440 --> 00:24:12,480
getting back even bringing that back

697
00:24:11,279 --> 00:24:13,919
into the relationships i mean that's

698
00:24:12,480 --> 00:24:15,120
that's something that i've had to talk

699
00:24:13,919 --> 00:24:17,760
with um

700
00:24:15,120 --> 00:24:19,360
some of the players about um

701
00:24:17,760 --> 00:24:21,360
particularly there's

702
00:24:19,360 --> 00:24:23,200
every so often there's you know somebody

703
00:24:21,360 --> 00:24:24,320
that's still got some you know

704
00:24:23,200 --> 00:24:25,600
there's something else that they're

705
00:24:24,320 --> 00:24:27,360
trying to take care of during the

706
00:24:25,600 --> 00:24:28,720
downtime in between their characters and

707
00:24:27,360 --> 00:24:30,480
you know every so often i'm having to

708
00:24:28,720 --> 00:24:33,039
like tell them hey can you can you mute

709
00:24:30,480 --> 00:24:35,520
your mic uh i'm picking up typing or

710
00:24:33,039 --> 00:24:37,360
yeah you know this that or the other

711
00:24:35,520 --> 00:24:38,880
and also that's you know

712
00:24:37,360 --> 00:24:41,360
if you got a decent relationship with

713
00:24:38,880 --> 00:24:43,120
the people that you're working with then

714
00:24:41,360 --> 00:24:45,360
that doesn't come across as too critical

715
00:24:43,120 --> 00:24:47,679
every so often or something like that

716
00:24:45,360 --> 00:24:50,480
but um i've been over like the the out

717
00:24:47,679 --> 00:24:52,000
of game and like the stuff like

718
00:24:50,480 --> 00:24:53,919
between players players and characters

719
00:24:52,000 --> 00:24:56,559
in the dm and everything but

720
00:24:53,919 --> 00:25:00,799
um one of the things that really also

721
00:24:56,559 --> 00:25:02,880
drew me to this topic was the fact of my

722
00:25:00,799 --> 00:25:04,080
it's kind of the basis one of the the

723
00:25:02,880 --> 00:25:07,520
basis

724
00:25:04,080 --> 00:25:11,360
basis something like i don't know anyway

725
00:25:07,520 --> 00:25:14,480
a big pop big part of the podcast uh is

726
00:25:11,360 --> 00:25:15,840
that all of the characters are adopted

727
00:25:14,480 --> 00:25:18,320
siblings

728
00:25:15,840 --> 00:25:20,000
even though they come from a variety of

729
00:25:18,320 --> 00:25:22,159
different races

730
00:25:20,000 --> 00:25:25,760
which in the world that they're in

731
00:25:22,159 --> 00:25:27,679
mature at various different speeds

732
00:25:25,760 --> 00:25:29,279
and that really

733
00:25:27,679 --> 00:25:32,080
just i wanted to use that to kind of

734
00:25:29,279 --> 00:25:33,279
like highlight how important it is

735
00:25:32,080 --> 00:25:36,400
to do

736
00:25:33,279 --> 00:25:37,840
a session zero or at least have

737
00:25:36,400 --> 00:25:39,760
a discussion

738
00:25:37,840 --> 00:25:42,480
with your players before you know you

739
00:25:39,760 --> 00:25:44,159
actually start so they understand they

740
00:25:42,480 --> 00:25:45,440
have an idea at least of how their

741
00:25:44,159 --> 00:25:46,799
characters

742
00:25:45,440 --> 00:25:48,400
interact with each other how they're

743
00:25:46,799 --> 00:25:50,720
connected

744
00:25:48,400 --> 00:25:52,240
our session zero which we among

745
00:25:50,720 --> 00:25:54,559
ourselves we refer to as the lost

746
00:25:52,240 --> 00:25:56,400
episode because we tried to record and

747
00:25:54,559 --> 00:25:59,279
the audio software failed

748
00:25:56,400 --> 00:26:00,559
um was them as children before they had

749
00:25:59,279 --> 00:26:02,480
actually

750
00:26:00,559 --> 00:26:04,960
gotten any before they'd actually become

751
00:26:02,480 --> 00:26:09,039
adults and taken class levels and gone

752
00:26:04,960 --> 00:26:11,279
off to you know do whatever and

753
00:26:09,039 --> 00:26:13,120
it was them kind of it was literally for

754
00:26:11,279 --> 00:26:15,520
them to establish

755
00:26:13,120 --> 00:26:17,360
not only who their characters were

756
00:26:15,520 --> 00:26:19,919
so that everybody else understood but

757
00:26:17,360 --> 00:26:21,200
also establish how do they interact with

758
00:26:19,919 --> 00:26:22,720
each other like

759
00:26:21,200 --> 00:26:25,840
there was one character that from the

760
00:26:22,720 --> 00:26:28,720
get-go was set up to be the big brother

761
00:26:25,840 --> 00:26:31,760
because he comes from a the character

762
00:26:28,720 --> 00:26:34,480
crosstrom uh comes from a

763
00:26:31,760 --> 00:26:36,960
a homebrew race called the garaki which

764
00:26:34,480 --> 00:26:38,559
are beings with earth elemental heritage

765
00:26:36,960 --> 00:26:40,400
so any

766
00:26:38,559 --> 00:26:42,240
they have an average lifespan of a

767
00:26:40,400 --> 00:26:44,720
thousand years but it also takes them

768
00:26:42,240 --> 00:26:47,919
about a hundred years or so to actually

769
00:26:44,720 --> 00:26:50,960
reach physical maturity so

770
00:26:47,919 --> 00:26:53,200
he's a character that is basically like

771
00:26:50,960 --> 00:26:55,440
he is far older than any of the other

772
00:26:53,200 --> 00:26:57,039
characters he's the one that basically

773
00:26:55,440 --> 00:26:58,799
is you know on the on the cusp of

774
00:26:57,039 --> 00:27:01,600
adulthood so he's obviously the

775
00:26:58,799 --> 00:27:03,440
responsible one but with the others they

776
00:27:01,600 --> 00:27:05,039
were kind of like

777
00:27:03,440 --> 00:27:08,080
for the most part i think that we had a

778
00:27:05,039 --> 00:27:09,760
dragonborn who was six years old we had

779
00:27:08,080 --> 00:27:12,559
you know a couple a tiefling and an

780
00:27:09,760 --> 00:27:15,440
asamar who you know were you know like

781
00:27:12,559 --> 00:27:17,440
12 13. um there was

782
00:27:15,440 --> 00:27:19,919
one character that had a and they they

783
00:27:17,440 --> 00:27:22,640
mature slightly slower than humans so he

784
00:27:19,919 --> 00:27:25,520
was like 15 but still

785
00:27:22,640 --> 00:27:28,320
mentally the equivalent of like 11 12

786
00:27:25,520 --> 00:27:31,039
years old you know so

787
00:27:28,320 --> 00:27:32,640
it's figuring out like okay

788
00:27:31,039 --> 00:27:35,440
which of these characters is responsible

789
00:27:32,640 --> 00:27:38,880
which of these will generally be a good

790
00:27:35,440 --> 00:27:41,039
kid but is easily led into pranks by

791
00:27:38,880 --> 00:27:43,360
their by their siblings you know which

792
00:27:41,039 --> 00:27:45,679
one is the one that instigates all of

793
00:27:43,360 --> 00:27:48,720
said pranks you know trying to figure

794
00:27:45,679 --> 00:27:51,919
out you know what's going on

795
00:27:48,720 --> 00:27:54,640
and it worked amazing

796
00:27:51,919 --> 00:27:56,159
from my perspective because everybody

797
00:27:54,640 --> 00:27:57,760
not only it gave them introduction to

798
00:27:56,159 --> 00:27:59,679
the world and how

799
00:27:57,760 --> 00:28:01,840
everything was set up

800
00:27:59,679 --> 00:28:04,240
but it also let them figure out okay

801
00:28:01,840 --> 00:28:06,480
this is fun this is how we interact this

802
00:28:04,240 --> 00:28:09,840
is the basis of how we're going to have

803
00:28:06,480 --> 00:28:11,520
our adult characters fall in and re and

804
00:28:09,840 --> 00:28:14,240
work with each other

805
00:28:11,520 --> 00:28:17,120
you know because the with the premise of

806
00:28:14,240 --> 00:28:19,440
the campaign was that their

807
00:28:17,120 --> 00:28:23,520
adopted father got murdered

808
00:28:19,440 --> 00:28:25,120
and just it was a robbery gone wrong and

809
00:28:23,520 --> 00:28:27,120
that kind of

810
00:28:25,120 --> 00:28:29,120
set the crack in their

811
00:28:27,120 --> 00:28:31,120
cohesiveness as a family and then as

812
00:28:29,120 --> 00:28:32,399
each one kind of reached

813
00:28:31,120 --> 00:28:34,320
maturity

814
00:28:32,399 --> 00:28:36,399
then they kind of went off on their own

815
00:28:34,320 --> 00:28:37,679
and became a player character and then

816
00:28:36,399 --> 00:28:40,480
the

817
00:28:37,679 --> 00:28:42,960
podcast officially started with them

818
00:28:40,480 --> 00:28:44,799
kind of all coming back home

819
00:28:42,960 --> 00:28:46,480
after being tracked down by an old

820
00:28:44,799 --> 00:28:47,919
childhood friend of theirs who had found

821
00:28:46,480 --> 00:28:49,679
something in

822
00:28:47,919 --> 00:28:52,000
her father's belongings that kind of

823
00:28:49,679 --> 00:28:53,840
related to their adopted dad that she

824
00:28:52,000 --> 00:28:55,919
felt they needed to

825
00:28:53,840 --> 00:28:58,399
that they probably would want to know

826
00:28:55,919 --> 00:29:00,159
about yeah it's quite it's quite noir in

827
00:28:58,399 --> 00:29:02,399
a way it's it's like you know someone

828
00:29:00,159 --> 00:29:05,200
coming through the door of your

829
00:29:02,399 --> 00:29:08,080
pi's office and being like i found

830
00:29:05,200 --> 00:29:09,440
this you know smoking gun in this

831
00:29:08,080 --> 00:29:11,520
person's office

832
00:29:09,440 --> 00:29:13,039
and yeah and that actually that became

833
00:29:11,520 --> 00:29:14,799
the impetus for

834
00:29:13,039 --> 00:29:17,279
the the the whole

835
00:29:14,799 --> 00:29:19,360
the campaign the the idea the premise is

836
00:29:17,279 --> 00:29:21,760
that they have they actually

837
00:29:19,360 --> 00:29:23,200
were locked in a temporal stasis for a

838
00:29:21,760 --> 00:29:25,039
thousand years

839
00:29:23,200 --> 00:29:26,960
and they basically

840
00:29:25,039 --> 00:29:28,320
missed an entire cataclysm that

841
00:29:26,960 --> 00:29:29,919
basically happened

842
00:29:28,320 --> 00:29:32,399
minutes after they got locked into this

843
00:29:29,919 --> 00:29:34,559
temporal stasis they kind of

844
00:29:32,399 --> 00:29:37,600
changed the world from what they knew

845
00:29:34,559 --> 00:29:39,039
into this entirely new one and you know

846
00:29:37,600 --> 00:29:41,200
of course a thousand years have passed

847
00:29:39,039 --> 00:29:42,880
all this knowledge that was commonplace

848
00:29:41,200 --> 00:29:45,919
for them is now

849
00:29:42,880 --> 00:29:48,480
considered either lost or so beyond the

850
00:29:45,919 --> 00:29:51,679
understanding of people at the time that

851
00:29:48,480 --> 00:29:53,039
they're at that it might as well be

852
00:29:51,679 --> 00:29:56,480
unusable

853
00:29:53,039 --> 00:29:57,840
so it's them trying to navigate okay

854
00:29:56,480 --> 00:29:59,679
you know how do we

855
00:29:57,840 --> 00:30:02,240
figure out

856
00:29:59,679 --> 00:30:04,080
how to you know like what do we how does

857
00:30:02,240 --> 00:30:06,399
our knowledge of the past relate to what

858
00:30:04,080 --> 00:30:08,640
we're doing here yeah a lot of their

859
00:30:06,399 --> 00:30:10,159
adventures come down to them having made

860
00:30:08,640 --> 00:30:12,960
a kind of

861
00:30:10,159 --> 00:30:14,880
a name for themselves as

862
00:30:12,960 --> 00:30:17,360
you know having anytime there's

863
00:30:14,880 --> 00:30:19,600
something new that you know they that

864
00:30:17,360 --> 00:30:22,159
people can't figure out like eventually

865
00:30:19,600 --> 00:30:24,240
they get contracted to come in and deal

866
00:30:22,159 --> 00:30:25,840
with it because they've kind of got some

867
00:30:24,240 --> 00:30:28,559
personal knowledge

868
00:30:25,840 --> 00:30:29,919
it lets the not only that lets me use

869
00:30:28,559 --> 00:30:32,159
that

870
00:30:29,919 --> 00:30:34,080
lets the pcs go and have

871
00:30:32,159 --> 00:30:36,559
some personal connection to everything

872
00:30:34,080 --> 00:30:38,960
they've done like the most recent arc

873
00:30:36,559 --> 00:30:42,399
of the podcast has been them

874
00:30:38,960 --> 00:30:45,200
um basically dealing with

875
00:30:42,399 --> 00:30:48,000
they got uh strangely enough they got

876
00:30:45,200 --> 00:30:50,880
invitations to allow direct invitations

877
00:30:48,000 --> 00:30:53,440
to allow them into these archmage

878
00:30:50,880 --> 00:30:55,279
quarters at a university

879
00:30:53,440 --> 00:30:57,120
that um the university survived the

880
00:30:55,279 --> 00:30:58,960
cataclysm but all the archmages didn't

881
00:30:57,120 --> 00:31:01,279
so there shouldn't be anybody alive to

882
00:30:58,960 --> 00:31:03,919
actually send these invitations out

883
00:31:01,279 --> 00:31:05,679
awesome so and it turns out that the

884
00:31:03,919 --> 00:31:08,720
people that did survive and did it in

885
00:31:05,679 --> 00:31:11,440
such a weird way um they actually were

886
00:31:08,720 --> 00:31:13,440
deeply connected to these characters

887
00:31:11,440 --> 00:31:15,039
just by chance so

888
00:31:13,440 --> 00:31:16,880
that you know that was kind of a way

889
00:31:15,039 --> 00:31:19,840
that let me work things out it lets me

890
00:31:16,880 --> 00:31:21,919
put all these this ancient stuff um i

891
00:31:19,840 --> 00:31:24,320
mentioned at the offset that i've got

892
00:31:21,919 --> 00:31:27,519
that our patreon stuff includes like a

893
00:31:24,320 --> 00:31:29,360
modern day setting and that one

894
00:31:27,519 --> 00:31:30,960
that story line initially started as

895
00:31:29,360 --> 00:31:32,720
bogus content that i would release

896
00:31:30,960 --> 00:31:35,039
occasionally in between the normal

897
00:31:32,720 --> 00:31:37,120
episodes before it moved to patreon but

898
00:31:35,039 --> 00:31:40,640
the characters in that

899
00:31:37,120 --> 00:31:41,679
setting are also related in one way or

900
00:31:40,640 --> 00:31:42,559
another

901
00:31:41,679 --> 00:31:44,960
to

902
00:31:42,559 --> 00:31:47,200
the characters in the main storyline

903
00:31:44,960 --> 00:31:50,159
like it's basically been established

904
00:31:47,200 --> 00:31:52,799
among all like with all the players in

905
00:31:50,159 --> 00:31:54,640
both storylines that the character emmet

906
00:31:52,799 --> 00:31:56,080
from the side podcast

907
00:31:54,640 --> 00:31:58,799
is a

908
00:31:56,080 --> 00:32:01,440
direct descendant of the tiefling and

909
00:31:58,799 --> 00:32:04,080
asamar characters oh

910
00:32:01,440 --> 00:32:06,640
so he like he is a tiefling his brother

911
00:32:04,080 --> 00:32:07,919
is an asamar and like his family doesn't

912
00:32:06,640 --> 00:32:09,600
just they kind of roll with it they

913
00:32:07,919 --> 00:32:11,679
don't know necessarily where this

914
00:32:09,600 --> 00:32:14,159
heritage came from but then you know

915
00:32:11,679 --> 00:32:17,120
sometimes asmr and tieflings just pop up

916
00:32:14,159 --> 00:32:18,480
in human in human lineage yes so

917
00:32:17,120 --> 00:32:20,080
you know they're just like okay well

918
00:32:18,480 --> 00:32:22,799
it's got to be there somewhere well

919
00:32:20,080 --> 00:32:25,120
that's where it comes from

920
00:32:22,799 --> 00:32:26,720
um i gotta i gotta ask

921
00:32:25,120 --> 00:32:30,320
and there is a reason why i'm asking

922
00:32:26,720 --> 00:32:32,000
this um are you a fan of british sitcoms

923
00:32:30,320 --> 00:32:36,320
at all

924
00:32:32,000 --> 00:32:39,279
to an extent i was um i'm monty python

925
00:32:36,320 --> 00:32:41,039
pretty uh solidif pretty much uh was my

926
00:32:39,279 --> 00:32:43,440
formulative humor

927
00:32:41,039 --> 00:32:45,919
that and a bit of black adder so okay

928
00:32:43,440 --> 00:32:47,600
well very very strong in examples there

929
00:32:45,919 --> 00:32:48,880
the only reason i ask is because you're

930
00:32:47,600 --> 00:32:50,080
you're set up there of like being

931
00:32:48,880 --> 00:32:52,159
trapped in

932
00:32:50,080 --> 00:32:54,320
uh you know some temporal stasis is a

933
00:32:52,159 --> 00:32:56,960
set up to a a british sitcom based off

934
00:32:54,320 --> 00:32:58,320
series of books called red dwarf oh god

935
00:32:56,960 --> 00:33:00,159
yeah yeah

936
00:32:58,320 --> 00:33:01,679
there there are all these there are

937
00:33:00,159 --> 00:33:03,760
these things that like i'm probably sure

938
00:33:01,679 --> 00:33:05,679
probably pretty sure that that uh

939
00:33:03,760 --> 00:33:07,120
influenced me at some point because i do

940
00:33:05,679 --> 00:33:09,519
love i did

941
00:33:07,120 --> 00:33:11,200
uh love red dwarf never got to watch the

942
00:33:09,519 --> 00:33:13,679
whole series but you know i'm pretty

943
00:33:11,200 --> 00:33:15,600
sure that has um some influence even if

944
00:33:13,679 --> 00:33:17,039
i never really recognized it

945
00:33:15,600 --> 00:33:18,080
that's great because that's such a that

946
00:33:17,039 --> 00:33:19,519
was such a

947
00:33:18,080 --> 00:33:21,760
seminal part of me

948
00:33:19,519 --> 00:33:23,200
growing up i've seen them all a billion

949
00:33:21,760 --> 00:33:25,200
times um

950
00:33:23,200 --> 00:33:27,120
and yeah for those that don't know but

951
00:33:25,200 --> 00:33:28,240
all my my british listeners now are

952
00:33:27,120 --> 00:33:29,919
probably

953
00:33:28,240 --> 00:33:32,399
cheering from the rooftops for such a

954
00:33:29,919 --> 00:33:34,159
deep cut here but um

955
00:33:32,399 --> 00:33:35,919
in that the main character guy called

956
00:33:34,159 --> 00:33:37,919
lister he he

957
00:33:35,919 --> 00:33:40,640
basically gets in trouble on this this

958
00:33:37,919 --> 00:33:43,039
mining spaceship out in deep space

959
00:33:40,640 --> 00:33:44,559
in the near-ish future

960
00:33:43,039 --> 00:33:47,039
so much so they put them in their form

961
00:33:44,559 --> 00:33:50,080
of prison which is stasis so you're like

962
00:33:47,039 --> 00:33:52,799
literally in this temporal stasis

963
00:33:50,080 --> 00:33:54,559
shortly after that an explosion happens

964
00:33:52,799 --> 00:33:57,039
on the ship and like a radiation

965
00:33:54,559 --> 00:33:59,279
explosion and wipes out all of the crew

966
00:33:57,039 --> 00:34:00,880
so the computer ai keeps him in stasis

967
00:33:59,279 --> 00:34:02,960
until the radiation levels are safe to

968
00:34:00,880 --> 00:34:04,880
be released which happens to be

969
00:34:02,960 --> 00:34:06,720
three million years into the future so

970
00:34:04,880 --> 00:34:09,280
for him he's just stepped in

971
00:34:06,720 --> 00:34:11,280
and stepped out and it's it's three

972
00:34:09,280 --> 00:34:14,000
million years into the future he's maybe

973
00:34:11,280 --> 00:34:16,560
the only human left alive because

974
00:34:14,000 --> 00:34:18,639
there's miles away from earth and so on

975
00:34:16,560 --> 00:34:21,200
and so on uh so yes that's as soon as

976
00:34:18,639 --> 00:34:22,720
you said temporarily locked in stasis

977
00:34:21,200 --> 00:34:24,240
and they've woken up a thousand years

978
00:34:22,720 --> 00:34:27,440
later i was like

979
00:34:24,240 --> 00:34:28,879
that is a fantastic idea uh and i'm

980
00:34:27,440 --> 00:34:31,119
annoyed that i've never thought of it

981
00:34:28,879 --> 00:34:31,119
either

982
00:34:31,359 --> 00:34:35,599
yeah

983
00:34:32,480 --> 00:34:37,280
oh uh yes it

984
00:34:35,599 --> 00:34:39,359
i mean as much as i love it and now it's

985
00:34:37,280 --> 00:34:40,399
gonna bother me because i'm sorry i'm

986
00:34:39,359 --> 00:34:42,000
sorry

987
00:34:40,399 --> 00:34:45,839
i don't mean to diminish i don't mean to

988
00:34:42,000 --> 00:34:46,800
diminish your like expertise at all uh

989
00:34:45,839 --> 00:34:49,679
i'm

990
00:34:46,800 --> 00:34:52,159
praising it oh no i mean it doesn't like

991
00:34:49,679 --> 00:34:54,000
i i have i have long ago accepted that

992
00:34:52,159 --> 00:34:56,399
there there is technically no such thing

993
00:34:54,000 --> 00:34:57,520
as a as an original idea somebody's had

994
00:34:56,399 --> 00:34:58,800
it somewhere

995
00:34:57,520 --> 00:35:00,240
but it's just like oh man i can't

996
00:34:58,800 --> 00:35:03,240
believe i never saw that connection

997
00:35:00,240 --> 00:35:03,240
before

998
00:35:03,360 --> 00:35:06,669
[Music]

999
00:35:09,230 --> 00:35:13,760
[Music]

1000
00:35:12,480 --> 00:35:14,880
that's that what you mentioned there

1001
00:35:13,760 --> 00:35:16,560
that

1002
00:35:14,880 --> 00:35:18,160
all the players in your

1003
00:35:16,560 --> 00:35:20,400
campaign are

1004
00:35:18,160 --> 00:35:22,560
adopted siblings and obviously that's

1005
00:35:20,400 --> 00:35:24,720
quite a unique a usp an exciting point

1006
00:35:22,560 --> 00:35:27,200
there in that there's there's obviously

1007
00:35:24,720 --> 00:35:29,599
so much baggage as you've you've just

1008
00:35:27,200 --> 00:35:30,640
nicely explained um do you would you

1009
00:35:29,599 --> 00:35:33,200
encourage

1010
00:35:30,640 --> 00:35:35,040
something similar for you know an

1011
00:35:33,200 --> 00:35:36,079
off-the-shelf game or a pickup game of

1012
00:35:35,040 --> 00:35:38,000
like

1013
00:35:36,079 --> 00:35:39,920
having those pre-existing relationships

1014
00:35:38,000 --> 00:35:43,680
between characters

1015
00:35:39,920 --> 00:35:46,560
yes and no because um

1016
00:35:43,680 --> 00:35:48,240
i mean sometimes it helps uh with

1017
00:35:46,560 --> 00:35:49,920
especially new players helps them give a

1018
00:35:48,240 --> 00:35:52,560
starting point for figuring out like how

1019
00:35:49,920 --> 00:35:54,160
to role play yeah um especially if you

1020
00:35:52,560 --> 00:35:56,800
like if

1021
00:35:54,160 --> 00:35:59,520
you know every because everybody's got

1022
00:35:56,800 --> 00:36:01,280
well i say everybody you know

1023
00:35:59,520 --> 00:36:03,040
it's very common for somebody if they

1024
00:36:01,280 --> 00:36:04,720
don't have siblings then they've got

1025
00:36:03,040 --> 00:36:06,560
cousins or

1026
00:36:04,720 --> 00:36:08,720
you know very close friends that they

1027
00:36:06,560 --> 00:36:09,680
can just that they just have these off

1028
00:36:08,720 --> 00:36:11,359
the cuff

1029
00:36:09,680 --> 00:36:14,160
conversations with

1030
00:36:11,359 --> 00:36:16,800
or they'll have in jokes or whatever and

1031
00:36:14,160 --> 00:36:18,560
especially if it's somebody

1032
00:36:16,800 --> 00:36:20,240
say in your group you've got a player

1033
00:36:18,560 --> 00:36:22,560
that's been playing with you for a while

1034
00:36:20,240 --> 00:36:24,880
and they're like oh yeah my

1035
00:36:22,560 --> 00:36:26,880
yeah yeah my coworker that good friends

1036
00:36:24,880 --> 00:36:28,480
of mine they've always wanted to play

1037
00:36:26,880 --> 00:36:30,800
and you know we've got an opening

1038
00:36:28,480 --> 00:36:33,040
because so and so had to leave um do you

1039
00:36:30,800 --> 00:36:35,440
mind if they come in and try playing and

1040
00:36:33,040 --> 00:36:37,680
then if you suggest as the dm you're

1041
00:36:35,440 --> 00:36:39,200
like okay cool that's great um and you

1042
00:36:37,680 --> 00:36:41,280
talk with them and say hey why don't you

1043
00:36:39,200 --> 00:36:43,280
go and

1044
00:36:41,280 --> 00:36:45,760
have it set up that your character is

1045
00:36:43,280 --> 00:36:46,640
already a friend of

1046
00:36:45,760 --> 00:36:48,800
this

1047
00:36:46,640 --> 00:36:50,000
you know their real life friends

1048
00:36:48,800 --> 00:36:51,359
character

1049
00:36:50,000 --> 00:36:53,440
that way it gives them kind of a

1050
00:36:51,359 --> 00:36:55,359
starting point one it helps integrate

1051
00:36:53,440 --> 00:36:56,720
them into the game also like why is this

1052
00:36:55,359 --> 00:36:59,680
character even joining where did they

1053
00:36:56,720 --> 00:37:01,680
come from but it also helps them

1054
00:36:59,680 --> 00:37:03,680
get kind of a starting point as to how

1055
00:37:01,680 --> 00:37:05,839
to interact with everybody

1056
00:37:03,680 --> 00:37:08,480
because then they're like okay oh it's

1057
00:37:05,839 --> 00:37:10,640
okay to kind of joke and

1058
00:37:08,480 --> 00:37:12,240
come up with these wild stories and then

1059
00:37:10,640 --> 00:37:14,400
they can talk with

1060
00:37:12,240 --> 00:37:16,480
their you know then those two players

1061
00:37:14,400 --> 00:37:18,160
can talk out of character and out of

1062
00:37:16,480 --> 00:37:19,119
game and figure out like oh yeah maybe

1063
00:37:18,160 --> 00:37:20,480
we've got

1064
00:37:19,119 --> 00:37:22,560
they can come up with their own

1065
00:37:20,480 --> 00:37:24,000
interpersonal stories that then they can

1066
00:37:22,560 --> 00:37:25,839
bring to the game

1067
00:37:24,000 --> 00:37:27,440
and it helps

1068
00:37:25,839 --> 00:37:28,560
not just help you know make a

1069
00:37:27,440 --> 00:37:30,560
relationship between those two

1070
00:37:28,560 --> 00:37:32,560
characters to kind of help with the role

1071
00:37:30,560 --> 00:37:34,000
play make everything more fun help the

1072
00:37:32,560 --> 00:37:36,480
other players kind of enjoy the

1073
00:37:34,000 --> 00:37:39,440
interactions between them but it also

1074
00:37:36,480 --> 00:37:42,960
helps establish a good relationship with

1075
00:37:39,440 --> 00:37:45,359
the new player and the game because the

1076
00:37:42,960 --> 00:37:47,119
it's learning the rules has been the

1077
00:37:45,359 --> 00:37:50,320
biggest problem

1078
00:37:47,119 --> 00:37:52,240
um i've had with new players it's like

1079
00:37:50,320 --> 00:37:53,200
it's they can learn they can do the role

1080
00:37:52,240 --> 00:37:54,960
play

1081
00:37:53,200 --> 00:37:56,640
or they can learn the rules and a lot of

1082
00:37:54,960 --> 00:37:59,760
them have trouble doing both and it

1083
00:37:56,640 --> 00:38:01,200
really sours the experience for them

1084
00:37:59,760 --> 00:38:02,400
yeah both both halves kind of get

1085
00:38:01,200 --> 00:38:05,599
diminished a little bit because they're

1086
00:38:02,400 --> 00:38:07,119
suffering from the other half not being

1087
00:38:05,599 --> 00:38:10,079
quite there yet

1088
00:38:07,119 --> 00:38:11,920
yeah and and usually as using that that

1089
00:38:10,079 --> 00:38:13,359
same example you know like

1090
00:38:11,920 --> 00:38:16,079
as i said if

1091
00:38:13,359 --> 00:38:17,599
you know people have um

1092
00:38:16,079 --> 00:38:20,000
if they have siblings have cousins you

1093
00:38:17,599 --> 00:38:21,599
know like that way you know it's using

1094
00:38:20,000 --> 00:38:24,240
that hey if you want to go and make your

1095
00:38:21,599 --> 00:38:26,560
characters connected already to you know

1096
00:38:24,240 --> 00:38:28,880
go ahead and have them i've played in

1097
00:38:26,560 --> 00:38:30,640
several campaigns in the past where all

1098
00:38:28,880 --> 00:38:32,240
the all the player characters were

1099
00:38:30,640 --> 00:38:35,119
related

1100
00:38:32,240 --> 00:38:37,760
or multiples were related

1101
00:38:35,119 --> 00:38:39,200
one in particular that i really remember

1102
00:38:37,760 --> 00:38:41,359
distinctly

1103
00:38:39,200 --> 00:38:45,599
that i just thought was uh

1104
00:38:41,359 --> 00:38:47,680
it it's one that always that kept

1105
00:38:45,599 --> 00:38:49,920
i i i it was a very funny one because it

1106
00:38:47,680 --> 00:38:51,280
was also one where we threw the dm for a

1107
00:38:49,920 --> 00:38:53,839
loop and if we didn't have a good

1108
00:38:51,280 --> 00:38:55,440
relationship with him then

1109
00:38:53,839 --> 00:38:56,880
and we're and we if we weren't willing

1110
00:38:55,440 --> 00:38:58,320
to kind of go with whatever he threw at

1111
00:38:56,880 --> 00:39:00,800
us we probably would have had to scrap

1112
00:38:58,320 --> 00:39:01,680
the campaign

1113
00:39:00,800 --> 00:39:03,520
but

1114
00:39:01,680 --> 00:39:07,119
our characters

1115
00:39:03,520 --> 00:39:09,760
one was human one was full elf and

1116
00:39:07,119 --> 00:39:12,079
myself was half elf

1117
00:39:09,760 --> 00:39:14,960
the elf was the oldest the

1118
00:39:12,079 --> 00:39:17,599
human was the second oldest and i was

1119
00:39:14,960 --> 00:39:20,560
the youngest and the thing was that

1120
00:39:17,599 --> 00:39:23,200
my parents were the elf's mother and the

1121
00:39:20,560 --> 00:39:26,320
human's father

1122
00:39:23,200 --> 00:39:28,400
so we were all siblings and we kind of

1123
00:39:26,320 --> 00:39:30,160
you know we had that dynamic where we

1124
00:39:28,400 --> 00:39:33,359
were constantly arguing

1125
00:39:30,160 --> 00:39:35,599
um but anytime somebody went to you know

1126
00:39:33,359 --> 00:39:38,480
go after one of us the other two would

1127
00:39:35,599 --> 00:39:40,640
then immediately jump on them

1128
00:39:38,480 --> 00:39:43,119
and then because we had that dynamic we

1129
00:39:40,640 --> 00:39:45,280
had already like we basically out of

1130
00:39:43,119 --> 00:39:47,760
game had worked up all of these

1131
00:39:45,280 --> 00:39:50,000
tag team strategies where we would all

1132
00:39:47,760 --> 00:39:52,160
play off of each other's strengths which

1133
00:39:50,000 --> 00:39:54,160
turned out to be devastatingly effective

1134
00:39:52,160 --> 00:39:55,599
in combat and we ended up taking there

1135
00:39:54,160 --> 00:39:58,800
was supposed to be this

1136
00:39:55,599 --> 00:40:01,040
uh arc where this uh big bad

1137
00:39:58,800 --> 00:40:03,040
it was like this werewolf with character

1138
00:40:01,040 --> 00:40:04,720
levels was supposed to kidnap somebody

1139
00:40:03,040 --> 00:40:07,680
and we the whole arc was supposed to be

1140
00:40:04,720 --> 00:40:09,440
us like chasing them the guy down

1141
00:40:07,680 --> 00:40:11,200
and fighting through all this to try and

1142
00:40:09,440 --> 00:40:13,280
rescue the person and then removing the

1143
00:40:11,200 --> 00:40:16,000
curse of lycanthropy from them

1144
00:40:13,280 --> 00:40:18,400
and thanks to you know one some really

1145
00:40:16,000 --> 00:40:20,240
lucky roles and these tactics and

1146
00:40:18,400 --> 00:40:22,560
because we had made these tactics up

1147
00:40:20,240 --> 00:40:24,800
because our characters were so connected

1148
00:40:22,560 --> 00:40:26,800
we ended up killing this big bad guy

1149
00:40:24,800 --> 00:40:28,319
that was should have been way out of our

1150
00:40:26,800 --> 00:40:29,920
league

1151
00:40:28,319 --> 00:40:32,560
and the dm was like well that's a whole

1152
00:40:29,920 --> 00:40:34,290
campaign i've gotta throw out so um yes

1153
00:40:32,560 --> 00:40:35,440
what are we gonna do here

1154
00:40:34,290 --> 00:40:37,200
[Music]

1155
00:40:35,440 --> 00:40:38,880
so as i said earlier i got my druid

1156
00:40:37,200 --> 00:40:40,240
player he's you're rolling a character

1157
00:40:38,880 --> 00:40:41,760
i've got another yeah another player

1158
00:40:40,240 --> 00:40:44,400
every rolling one of their characters

1159
00:40:41,760 --> 00:40:46,560
over the christmas holidays and um

1160
00:40:44,400 --> 00:40:47,359
it's something i've encouraged both of

1161
00:40:46,560 --> 00:40:50,000
them

1162
00:40:47,359 --> 00:40:52,800
i've said like really do think like i've

1163
00:40:50,000 --> 00:40:55,359
got i provide them a list a credits list

1164
00:40:52,800 --> 00:40:56,960
of every npc they've ever met and

1165
00:40:55,359 --> 00:40:59,280
what that you know what that person was

1166
00:40:56,960 --> 00:41:00,880
doing shopona this that the other ship

1167
00:40:59,280 --> 00:41:02,800
captain whatever it may be

1168
00:41:00,880 --> 00:41:04,960
and i've said like take

1169
00:41:02,800 --> 00:41:06,560
like every well the whole team refresh

1170
00:41:04,960 --> 00:41:07,920
your memory on the session logs refresh

1171
00:41:06,560 --> 00:41:09,839
memory of the npcs because then we'll

1172
00:41:07,920 --> 00:41:11,280
come back fresh face to the new year but

1173
00:41:09,839 --> 00:41:13,920
specifically for the two making a new

1174
00:41:11,280 --> 00:41:15,599
character take a look through that mpc

1175
00:41:13,920 --> 00:41:17,760
list and also bear in mind who you've

1176
00:41:15,599 --> 00:41:19,359
still got in the party i would strongly

1177
00:41:17,760 --> 00:41:21,200
encourage

1178
00:41:19,359 --> 00:41:23,839
some

1179
00:41:21,200 --> 00:41:25,599
relationships with some of those now i'm

1180
00:41:23,839 --> 00:41:27,599
not saying like

1181
00:41:25,599 --> 00:41:29,280
you're the wife of this person or you're

1182
00:41:27,599 --> 00:41:31,599
the partner of this person you know

1183
00:41:29,280 --> 00:41:33,440
something that strong not necessarily it

1184
00:41:31,599 --> 00:41:35,119
can be a passing relationship like you

1185
00:41:33,440 --> 00:41:36,960
worked together once in the past but i

1186
00:41:35,119 --> 00:41:38,640
think even even something small like

1187
00:41:36,960 --> 00:41:40,560
that can make a huge difference and it's

1188
00:41:38,640 --> 00:41:42,480
something that a number of my

1189
00:41:40,560 --> 00:41:43,760
i was this is a failing on my part again

1190
00:41:42,480 --> 00:41:47,359
that a number of my players suffered

1191
00:41:43,760 --> 00:41:50,079
with is no or very few ties to the world

1192
00:41:47,359 --> 00:41:51,599
i think is really the crux of the matter

1193
00:41:50,079 --> 00:41:53,440
so i've said them like

1194
00:41:51,599 --> 00:41:54,880
just think about your ties to the world

1195
00:41:53,440 --> 00:41:56,160
it doesn't have to be

1196
00:41:54,880 --> 00:41:57,599
i'm one of the other player characters

1197
00:41:56,160 --> 00:41:59,920
brothers it doesn't need to be that

1198
00:41:57,599 --> 00:42:02,160
strong it just needs to be like

1199
00:41:59,920 --> 00:42:04,160
i have a girlfriend back at home or i

1200
00:42:02,160 --> 00:42:06,000
have a shop that i need to provide money

1201
00:42:04,160 --> 00:42:08,160
for or i have

1202
00:42:06,000 --> 00:42:09,680
whatever it may be that you know my

1203
00:42:08,160 --> 00:42:11,520
uncle who lives up in the mountains i

1204
00:42:09,680 --> 00:42:13,119
need to send him a care package every

1205
00:42:11,520 --> 00:42:15,599
month like

1206
00:42:13,119 --> 00:42:17,440
anything like that i i think

1207
00:42:15,599 --> 00:42:18,160
any kind of pre-existing relationships

1208
00:42:17,440 --> 00:42:20,560
is

1209
00:42:18,160 --> 00:42:23,119
only a good thing

1210
00:42:20,560 --> 00:42:25,440
not necessary but can be a very good

1211
00:42:23,119 --> 00:42:27,359
thing i would say if you don't have them

1212
00:42:25,440 --> 00:42:28,720
there needs to be quite a compelling

1213
00:42:27,359 --> 00:42:31,599
reason

1214
00:42:28,720 --> 00:42:33,359
why not that then

1215
00:42:31,599 --> 00:42:34,720
should be enough juice for the dm to

1216
00:42:33,359 --> 00:42:36,319
build something off of that compelling

1217
00:42:34,720 --> 00:42:38,160
reason there should be enough me on the

1218
00:42:36,319 --> 00:42:40,319
bones there to then spin it in a

1219
00:42:38,160 --> 00:42:42,000
different way in interesting new ways

1220
00:42:40,319 --> 00:42:44,079
during the course of the campaign but

1221
00:42:42,000 --> 00:42:45,359
that would be that would be my my

1222
00:42:44,079 --> 00:42:47,280
thoughts on it and as i said i've really

1223
00:42:45,359 --> 00:42:49,119
encouraged you players to like

1224
00:42:47,280 --> 00:42:50,640
guys you've got four weeks off

1225
00:42:49,119 --> 00:42:52,480
review your notes review who you've

1226
00:42:50,640 --> 00:42:54,560
spoken to what you've done and i'm more

1227
00:42:52,480 --> 00:42:57,599
than happy to be like yes you can be his

1228
00:42:54,560 --> 00:43:00,480
ex-bodyguard or you can be their

1229
00:42:57,599 --> 00:43:02,240
former tailor i don't you know

1230
00:43:00,480 --> 00:43:05,920
anything like that you know

1231
00:43:02,240 --> 00:43:07,920
that's something that is is really um

1232
00:43:05,920 --> 00:43:10,160
that's a really good way to do that it

1233
00:43:07,920 --> 00:43:12,560
could be as simple as

1234
00:43:10,160 --> 00:43:14,640
this is the baker that you buy pastries

1235
00:43:12,560 --> 00:43:16,319
from every morning on your way to work

1236
00:43:14,640 --> 00:43:18,240
yeah yeah like

1237
00:43:16,319 --> 00:43:20,400
like there there's a there's a shop that

1238
00:43:18,240 --> 00:43:23,119
i stop at um

1239
00:43:20,400 --> 00:43:24,800
either to you know refuel my car but you

1240
00:43:23,119 --> 00:43:26,400
know i frequently will stop on my way

1241
00:43:24,800 --> 00:43:28,160
into work especially when i've got you

1242
00:43:26,400 --> 00:43:29,760
know several shifts in a row that i've

1243
00:43:28,160 --> 00:43:32,240
got to work so i'm like okay i'm gonna

1244
00:43:29,760 --> 00:43:35,440
pick up just stock up on some snacks

1245
00:43:32,240 --> 00:43:37,839
maybe buy a sandwich that i can have eat

1246
00:43:35,440 --> 00:43:39,599
half of one night and half of the next

1247
00:43:37,839 --> 00:43:41,839
night and then

1248
00:43:39,599 --> 00:43:43,680
you know and like the the the people

1249
00:43:41,839 --> 00:43:46,079
there know me

1250
00:43:43,680 --> 00:43:48,560
we don't know each other's names but we

1251
00:43:46,079 --> 00:43:49,599
know each other by you know by face we

1252
00:43:48,560 --> 00:43:52,720
know

1253
00:43:49,599 --> 00:43:54,880
they know generally what i buy i we know

1254
00:43:52,720 --> 00:43:56,800
generally like what's going on in each

1255
00:43:54,880 --> 00:43:58,960
other's lives just through small talk

1256
00:43:56,800 --> 00:44:00,960
yes yeah you know you have that and if i

1257
00:43:58,960 --> 00:44:02,560
don't see somebody or if i saw somebody

1258
00:44:00,960 --> 00:44:04,319
like really

1259
00:44:02,560 --> 00:44:05,680
looking like looking haggard i would

1260
00:44:04,319 --> 00:44:07,760
notice i would know that there's

1261
00:44:05,680 --> 00:44:08,960
something wrong going on there you know

1262
00:44:07,760 --> 00:44:11,520
and that's

1263
00:44:08,960 --> 00:44:13,520
you know and even having like that

1264
00:44:11,520 --> 00:44:15,839
connection with that shopkeeper you know

1265
00:44:13,520 --> 00:44:18,319
suddenly you can go and say like oh well

1266
00:44:15,839 --> 00:44:19,920
i've been by there three days in a row

1267
00:44:18,319 --> 00:44:22,400
and the shopkeeper and their shop is

1268
00:44:19,920 --> 00:44:24,800
closed what's going on or you know it

1269
00:44:22,400 --> 00:44:26,880
could be that you can use that as you

1270
00:44:24,800 --> 00:44:29,040
know an adventure hook like hey

1271
00:44:26,880 --> 00:44:31,520
you're part of an adventuring party

1272
00:44:29,040 --> 00:44:33,200
you know my family out here is having

1273
00:44:31,520 --> 00:44:35,520
problems you know

1274
00:44:33,200 --> 00:44:37,280
is there any way i can hire you to go do

1275
00:44:35,520 --> 00:44:38,960
that to go yeah you know check on them

1276
00:44:37,280 --> 00:44:41,599
see what's going on

1277
00:44:38,960 --> 00:44:42,560
you know it's not just to give it's you

1278
00:44:41,599 --> 00:44:44,240
know

1279
00:44:42,560 --> 00:44:47,200
it one it gives them role play

1280
00:44:44,240 --> 00:44:48,720
opportunities two it gives you as the dm

1281
00:44:47,200 --> 00:44:50,720
an opportunity to

1282
00:44:48,720 --> 00:44:52,400
you know make the

1283
00:44:50,720 --> 00:44:55,280
the the story that they're playing

1284
00:44:52,400 --> 00:44:57,359
through personalized in a way that you

1285
00:44:55,280 --> 00:45:00,880
know the big problem

1286
00:44:57,359 --> 00:45:02,640
with a lot of a lot of stories is not

1287
00:45:00,880 --> 00:45:04,960
necessarily that

1288
00:45:02,640 --> 00:45:08,079
the the story isn't fun it's finding a

1289
00:45:04,960 --> 00:45:10,400
way to make the player care about the

1290
00:45:08,079 --> 00:45:12,480
story yes yeah and

1291
00:45:10,400 --> 00:45:15,119
if you can the easiest way to do that is

1292
00:45:12,480 --> 00:45:17,280
of course make their character have a

1293
00:45:15,119 --> 00:45:19,520
reason to care

1294
00:45:17,280 --> 00:45:21,440
you know connecting the people to the

1295
00:45:19,520 --> 00:45:23,280
the world in the podcast and i've

1296
00:45:21,440 --> 00:45:25,359
already mentioned that in the main

1297
00:45:23,280 --> 00:45:28,079
storyline the player characters are

1298
00:45:25,359 --> 00:45:29,920
constantly being asked to look into this

1299
00:45:28,079 --> 00:45:33,040
stuff that is kind of remnants from

1300
00:45:29,920 --> 00:45:34,560
their time so it gives them a reason to

1301
00:45:33,040 --> 00:45:37,119
care it gives them a reason to interact

1302
00:45:34,560 --> 00:45:39,040
with these people not just to explore

1303
00:45:37,119 --> 00:45:40,960
okay this is something this is a trip

1304
00:45:39,040 --> 00:45:42,960
down memory lane for us but also it's a

1305
00:45:40,960 --> 00:45:45,280
way for them to understand

1306
00:45:42,960 --> 00:45:46,880
how the world's culture has changed

1307
00:45:45,280 --> 00:45:49,040
since their time

1308
00:45:46,880 --> 00:45:52,640
it lets them kind of

1309
00:45:49,040 --> 00:45:54,640
it gives them a more personal idea of

1310
00:45:52,640 --> 00:45:56,640
the lore because that way when they make

1311
00:45:54,640 --> 00:45:59,280
lore checks about certain things it's

1312
00:45:56,640 --> 00:46:01,440
not just what they know from that time

1313
00:45:59,280 --> 00:46:04,480
but what their specific

1314
00:46:01,440 --> 00:46:06,560
training and background let them know

1315
00:46:04,480 --> 00:46:09,200
about these items

1316
00:46:06,560 --> 00:46:11,200
yeah i i find it funny because like

1317
00:46:09,200 --> 00:46:12,960
there's so many

1318
00:46:11,200 --> 00:46:14,400
instances of things that people do every

1319
00:46:12,960 --> 00:46:16,400
day in the real world like you've just

1320
00:46:14,400 --> 00:46:18,480
described and somehow when it comes to

1321
00:46:16,400 --> 00:46:20,079
the fantasy land that we all enjoy

1322
00:46:18,480 --> 00:46:21,280
playing a lot of that stuff just goes

1323
00:46:20,079 --> 00:46:24,000
out the window

1324
00:46:21,280 --> 00:46:27,040
and my my second job was at a

1325
00:46:24,000 --> 00:46:29,920
convenience store so a co-op in the uk

1326
00:46:27,040 --> 00:46:32,319
and um like precisely like you said i

1327
00:46:29,920 --> 00:46:34,240
would i would know hey you work in

1328
00:46:32,319 --> 00:46:35,920
regular shifts so you work the same time

1329
00:46:34,240 --> 00:46:37,760
every week so you get to know the same

1330
00:46:35,920 --> 00:46:39,599
people that come in at those same times

1331
00:46:37,760 --> 00:46:41,359
every week stuff and they live above the

1332
00:46:39,599 --> 00:46:44,000
shop in the you know in the flats above

1333
00:46:41,359 --> 00:46:45,599
the shop and um you do get to know them

1334
00:46:44,000 --> 00:46:47,040
as you said and you do get to be like oh

1335
00:46:45,599 --> 00:46:49,760
it's you got you know you're buying your

1336
00:46:47,040 --> 00:46:52,000
oh you know no milk today you know

1337
00:46:49,760 --> 00:46:52,880
um and one of the guys i was talking to

1338
00:46:52,000 --> 00:46:54,560
him and

1339
00:46:52,880 --> 00:46:56,720
long story short as he was in the career

1340
00:46:54,560 --> 00:46:58,319
that i was looking to get into way back

1341
00:46:56,720 --> 00:47:00,160
when and

1342
00:46:58,319 --> 00:47:02,480
you know i eventually said like

1343
00:47:00,160 --> 00:47:03,599
hey can you spend could you spare five

1344
00:47:02,480 --> 00:47:05,359
minutes ten minutes talking about you

1345
00:47:03,599 --> 00:47:06,640
know recommendations tips you know as a

1346
00:47:05,359 --> 00:47:08,400
young person does trying to get into a

1347
00:47:06,640 --> 00:47:10,880
new career and yeah we ended up going

1348
00:47:08,400 --> 00:47:12,640
for a drink after work you know one day

1349
00:47:10,880 --> 00:47:14,240
at the local pub just so he could talk

1350
00:47:12,640 --> 00:47:16,319
me through that kind of stuff that stuff

1351
00:47:14,240 --> 00:47:17,760
happens all the time and it's so organic

1352
00:47:16,319 --> 00:47:19,280
and dynamic so

1353
00:47:17,760 --> 00:47:20,319
there's no reason why that stuff can't

1354
00:47:19,280 --> 00:47:21,280
happen in

1355
00:47:20,319 --> 00:47:24,800
in

1356
00:47:21,280 --> 00:47:26,400
your dnd camp gtrpg campaign and

1357
00:47:24,800 --> 00:47:28,079
sometimes i feel like

1358
00:47:26,400 --> 00:47:29,520
some players are a little bit you know

1359
00:47:28,079 --> 00:47:31,200
scared of doing that stuff because i

1360
00:47:29,520 --> 00:47:33,839
don't want to step on the dm's toes to

1361
00:47:31,200 --> 00:47:36,160
be like oh maybe i will

1362
00:47:33,839 --> 00:47:38,160
no as long as it's not like i know the

1363
00:47:36,160 --> 00:47:40,400
king of the castle and all the guards as

1364
00:47:38,160 --> 00:47:42,000
well are my best friends and we can

1365
00:47:40,400 --> 00:47:45,440
never be arrested because they're my

1366
00:47:42,000 --> 00:47:47,760
best friends like as long as it's not

1367
00:47:45,440 --> 00:47:49,359
anything like that it's can it can only

1368
00:47:47,760 --> 00:47:52,800
be a good thing

1369
00:47:49,359 --> 00:47:54,319
yeah i mean i've i've um uh in the main

1370
00:47:52,800 --> 00:47:55,760
storyline i mean that they have i

1371
00:47:54,319 --> 00:47:56,880
haven't had much to

1372
00:47:55,760 --> 00:47:58,800
really

1373
00:47:56,880 --> 00:48:00,400
get into it so far but i mean one of the

1374
00:47:58,800 --> 00:48:03,200
main characters one of the characters in

1375
00:48:00,400 --> 00:48:04,800
the main podcast actually has a kid he's

1376
00:48:03,200 --> 00:48:07,680
um he he's

1377
00:48:04,800 --> 00:48:10,160
he had basically a uh

1378
00:48:07,680 --> 00:48:13,119
basically in in the world of our podcast

1379
00:48:10,160 --> 00:48:14,960
dragonborn are extremely rare

1380
00:48:13,119 --> 00:48:17,920
and the thing is is that he meets up

1381
00:48:14,960 --> 00:48:21,599
with another dragonborn and they

1382
00:48:17,920 --> 00:48:23,920
you know have a nice adult encounter

1383
00:48:21,599 --> 00:48:25,839
and it turns out well like a kid comes

1384
00:48:23,920 --> 00:48:28,720
from that and the

1385
00:48:25,839 --> 00:48:30,559
yeah i basically posed it to the um and

1386
00:48:28,720 --> 00:48:32,160
that was also well i posed it to the

1387
00:48:30,559 --> 00:48:34,880
character it's like look you know you

1388
00:48:32,160 --> 00:48:37,119
know anything from here that goes on

1389
00:48:34,880 --> 00:48:39,359
that's going to be up to you and your

1390
00:48:37,119 --> 00:48:41,200
character how you want that to go

1391
00:48:39,359 --> 00:48:43,040
um how you want how involved you want to

1392
00:48:41,200 --> 00:48:44,960
be in the kid's life do you want to like

1393
00:48:43,040 --> 00:48:47,200
actually have like a

1394
00:48:44,960 --> 00:48:50,000
established like some kind of

1395
00:48:47,200 --> 00:48:53,200
continued relationship with the mother

1396
00:48:50,000 --> 00:48:55,680
and it actually played a lot into um

1397
00:48:53,200 --> 00:48:56,960
the the storyline because then it kind

1398
00:48:55,680 --> 00:48:59,520
of explored some of you know the

1399
00:48:56,960 --> 00:49:01,760
characters biological father

1400
00:48:59,520 --> 00:49:03,440
and you know there's some plot elements

1401
00:49:01,760 --> 00:49:05,040
in that that you know that if you want

1402
00:49:03,440 --> 00:49:06,559
to hear about that you can go and listen

1403
00:49:05,040 --> 00:49:08,480
to the podcast

1404
00:49:06,559 --> 00:49:09,520
that's too much to delve into here but

1405
00:49:08,480 --> 00:49:11,839
yeah it

1406
00:49:09,520 --> 00:49:13,920
just even those small little things you

1407
00:49:11,839 --> 00:49:17,040
know just

1408
00:49:13,920 --> 00:49:18,800
there it's something that makes the

1409
00:49:17,040 --> 00:49:21,200
world a little bit more

1410
00:49:18,800 --> 00:49:23,119
involved makes it less than just some

1411
00:49:21,200 --> 00:49:25,760
video game that you're picking up and

1412
00:49:23,119 --> 00:49:27,599
more an actual involved story that

1413
00:49:25,760 --> 00:49:30,640
you're taking part in

1414
00:49:27,599 --> 00:49:33,280
yeah yeah absolutely absolutely and and

1415
00:49:30,640 --> 00:49:35,680
from small seeds do mighty oaks grow as

1416
00:49:33,280 --> 00:49:37,599
they say and uh yeah so even even from

1417
00:49:35,680 --> 00:49:39,440
something that might seem

1418
00:49:37,599 --> 00:49:40,640
inconsequential like this guy was my

1419
00:49:39,440 --> 00:49:43,760
tailor

1420
00:49:40,640 --> 00:49:45,359
for my high school prom you can spin

1421
00:49:43,760 --> 00:49:46,880
if you're pardon the appropriate

1422
00:49:45,359 --> 00:49:48,559
terminal you could spin anything out of

1423
00:49:46,880 --> 00:49:50,880
that

1424
00:49:48,559 --> 00:49:52,640
yeah there's always the memes online

1425
00:49:50,880 --> 00:49:55,200
about like you know okay the character

1426
00:49:52,640 --> 00:49:57,040
the dm has this idea like this is the

1427
00:49:55,200 --> 00:49:59,119
plot the quest giver that you need to

1428
00:49:57,040 --> 00:50:01,680
talk to and they just kind of give off a

1429
00:49:59,119 --> 00:50:03,359
couple throwaway npcs and the the

1430
00:50:01,680 --> 00:50:05,920
players want to go talk to bob and the

1431
00:50:03,359 --> 00:50:07,520
goblin over there that the dm has no

1432
00:50:05,920 --> 00:50:09,440
idea what this person is supposed to be

1433
00:50:07,520 --> 00:50:10,720
but suddenly that's their favorite npc

1434
00:50:09,440 --> 00:50:12,400
and now they're in love with it and

1435
00:50:10,720 --> 00:50:14,720
you've got to figure out what what is

1436
00:50:12,400 --> 00:50:17,359
this character

1437
00:50:14,720 --> 00:50:20,160
um i i did have a question for you as

1438
00:50:17,359 --> 00:50:21,839
okay to shift gears from

1439
00:50:20,160 --> 00:50:22,960
in-game back to out of game actually for

1440
00:50:21,839 --> 00:50:23,920
a second so

1441
00:50:22,960 --> 00:50:25,200
in

1442
00:50:23,920 --> 00:50:27,119
your game

1443
00:50:25,200 --> 00:50:28,480
are any of the players did they have

1444
00:50:27,119 --> 00:50:31,280
pre-existing relationships are they

1445
00:50:28,480 --> 00:50:33,599
friends family or are they is it random

1446
00:50:31,280 --> 00:50:36,079
pickups or how was it for you

1447
00:50:33,599 --> 00:50:38,640
so let's see um

1448
00:50:36,079 --> 00:50:41,599
four of the players

1449
00:50:38,640 --> 00:50:43,839
i did not know before i basically put

1450
00:50:41,599 --> 00:50:46,559
out like a little casting call

1451
00:50:43,839 --> 00:50:49,119
two of them i did know one i had known

1452
00:50:46,559 --> 00:50:50,880
previously um it was kind of a mutual

1453
00:50:49,119 --> 00:50:53,520
friend of a friend never we we never

1454
00:50:50,880 --> 00:50:55,680
really played in any games together but

1455
00:50:53,520 --> 00:50:57,119
we knew of each other we we had we knew

1456
00:50:55,680 --> 00:50:59,119
who each other were

1457
00:50:57,119 --> 00:51:00,880
and we had a decent friendly

1458
00:50:59,119 --> 00:51:01,839
relationship with that

1459
00:51:00,880 --> 00:51:04,640
the

1460
00:51:01,839 --> 00:51:07,599
uh uk the player in the uk

1461
00:51:04,640 --> 00:51:11,040
he and i hadn't had begun interacting in

1462
00:51:07,599 --> 00:51:13,440
a dnd group because he very frequently

1463
00:51:11,040 --> 00:51:15,760
posts uh you know just questions about

1464
00:51:13,440 --> 00:51:18,400
character concepts and ideas and we

1465
00:51:15,760 --> 00:51:20,720
would always have some very friendly

1466
00:51:18,400 --> 00:51:22,559
debate and discussions about stuff like

1467
00:51:20,720 --> 00:51:23,680
that so we were

1468
00:51:22,559 --> 00:51:26,640
already had a decent working

1469
00:51:23,680 --> 00:51:28,160
relationship um the rest of the the

1470
00:51:26,640 --> 00:51:29,599
players

1471
00:51:28,160 --> 00:51:31,599
as i said you know they were just

1472
00:51:29,599 --> 00:51:33,040
complete strangers to me

1473
00:51:31,599 --> 00:51:35,760
two of them

1474
00:51:33,040 --> 00:51:37,599
were in a relate in a relationship okay

1475
00:51:35,760 --> 00:51:39,760
that has since dissolved but of course

1476
00:51:37,599 --> 00:51:41,599
they still remain friends and everything

1477
00:51:39,760 --> 00:51:42,319
is okay that was you know that was it

1478
00:51:41,599 --> 00:51:43,760
was

1479
00:51:42,319 --> 00:51:45,920
yeah that

1480
00:51:43,760 --> 00:51:48,240
so i mean yeah they they

1481
00:51:45,920 --> 00:51:49,680
it was weird be that was also kind of

1482
00:51:48,240 --> 00:51:51,280
like one of the things that really had

1483
00:51:49,680 --> 00:51:53,040
me on edge when i first started out

1484
00:51:51,280 --> 00:51:54,000
because these are people

1485
00:51:53,040 --> 00:51:56,400
that

1486
00:51:54,000 --> 00:51:58,559
don't know each other we don't you know

1487
00:51:56,400 --> 00:51:59,760
it's not like we've interacted before

1488
00:51:58,559 --> 00:52:01,440
and this is something we came up as a

1489
00:51:59,760 --> 00:52:04,400
group this is basically them like at

1490
00:52:01,440 --> 00:52:05,920
like you know answering a casting call

1491
00:52:04,400 --> 00:52:07,280
that i put out

1492
00:52:05,920 --> 00:52:10,000
and

1493
00:52:07,280 --> 00:52:11,839
you know that was a big things like so

1494
00:52:10,000 --> 00:52:13,920
it's the unknown it's it's kind of like

1495
00:52:11,839 --> 00:52:16,800
starting dating somebody for the first

1496
00:52:13,920 --> 00:52:18,960
time yeah you know okay i've got to put

1497
00:52:16,800 --> 00:52:21,359
a lot of energy and input is it going to

1498
00:52:18,960 --> 00:52:22,960
pay out is it something that i'm going

1499
00:52:21,359 --> 00:52:25,599
to find out you know

1500
00:52:22,960 --> 00:52:29,119
first date oh my gosh this is somebody

1501
00:52:25,599 --> 00:52:30,640
who's a holocaust denier you know yeah

1502
00:52:29,119 --> 00:52:32,960
or are we just not going to have any

1503
00:52:30,640 --> 00:52:35,040
chemistry and it's not anything that's

1504
00:52:32,960 --> 00:52:37,040
worth pursuing you know is it this is

1505
00:52:35,040 --> 00:52:40,480
something that we can

1506
00:52:37,040 --> 00:52:42,319
really keep going so yeah that was that

1507
00:52:40,480 --> 00:52:44,319
was that was a big thing and over the

1508
00:52:42,319 --> 00:52:45,040
year almost two years now that we've

1509
00:52:44,319 --> 00:52:47,040
been

1510
00:52:45,040 --> 00:52:49,440
working together it it's really

1511
00:52:47,040 --> 00:52:51,520
blossomed into something pretty awesome

1512
00:52:49,440 --> 00:52:54,400
from my perspective that's that's

1513
00:52:51,520 --> 00:52:56,000
amazing to hear the reason i say it's

1514
00:52:54,400 --> 00:52:58,079
extra interesting is because i've only

1515
00:52:56,000 --> 00:53:00,240
ever played with people i have a

1516
00:52:58,079 --> 00:53:01,119
pre-existing relationship with in some

1517
00:53:00,240 --> 00:53:02,640
form

1518
00:53:01,119 --> 00:53:04,400
or another i should tell a lie that

1519
00:53:02,640 --> 00:53:06,480
there's one or two players i don't know

1520
00:53:04,400 --> 00:53:08,079
but they are very much in

1521
00:53:06,480 --> 00:53:09,760
uh very much friends with friends of a

1522
00:53:08,079 --> 00:53:11,359
friend or something like that there's

1523
00:53:09,760 --> 00:53:13,200
absolutely a pre-existing relationship

1524
00:53:11,359 --> 00:53:15,520
it has never been a cold call it has

1525
00:53:13,200 --> 00:53:16,640
never been anything like that and

1526
00:53:15,520 --> 00:53:19,040
i i guess

1527
00:53:16,640 --> 00:53:20,559
my my stupid question is like do you

1528
00:53:19,040 --> 00:53:22,400
think one way is better do you think

1529
00:53:20,559 --> 00:53:24,480
like a pre-existing relationship helps

1530
00:53:22,400 --> 00:53:26,160
but it's it's a different experience i

1531
00:53:24,480 --> 00:53:28,400
imagine no no one's better than the

1532
00:53:26,160 --> 00:53:31,599
other it's just a different

1533
00:53:28,400 --> 00:53:33,760
kind of experience a learning curve

1534
00:53:31,599 --> 00:53:36,000
i don't know that i could really answer

1535
00:53:33,760 --> 00:53:39,200
that question because

1536
00:53:36,000 --> 00:53:41,200
i've done it both ways

1537
00:53:39,200 --> 00:53:43,200
and i think that having a pre-existing

1538
00:53:41,200 --> 00:53:44,560
relationship helps

1539
00:53:43,200 --> 00:53:45,680
because then

1540
00:53:44,560 --> 00:53:47,760
[Music]

1541
00:53:45,680 --> 00:53:48,880
you kind of already have an idea of that

1542
00:53:47,760 --> 00:53:51,119
person's

1543
00:53:48,880 --> 00:53:53,839
quirks and

1544
00:53:51,119 --> 00:53:55,440
and issues out of character so that it's

1545
00:53:53,839 --> 00:53:58,960
easier for you to tell like okay they're

1546
00:53:55,440 --> 00:54:01,119
not being a jerk this is just how they

1547
00:53:58,960 --> 00:54:03,760
role play or

1548
00:54:01,119 --> 00:54:05,359
or you know like okay this is you know

1549
00:54:03,760 --> 00:54:06,800
this is just kind of how they word

1550
00:54:05,359 --> 00:54:07,760
things

1551
00:54:06,800 --> 00:54:10,000
and

1552
00:54:07,760 --> 00:54:11,119
it's also easier to talk with somebody

1553
00:54:10,000 --> 00:54:13,040
that you already have a pre-existing

1554
00:54:11,119 --> 00:54:14,079
relationship with when there's some kind

1555
00:54:13,040 --> 00:54:15,760
of

1556
00:54:14,079 --> 00:54:17,440
some kind of discord going on in the

1557
00:54:15,760 --> 00:54:18,960
group or

1558
00:54:17,440 --> 00:54:22,640
any kind of weird

1559
00:54:18,960 --> 00:54:24,400
uh conflicts in between the characters

1560
00:54:22,640 --> 00:54:27,359
but

1561
00:54:24,400 --> 00:54:30,960
given that uh but the thing is also from

1562
00:54:27,359 --> 00:54:32,240
the other side is that um

1563
00:54:30,960 --> 00:54:34,720
this has been

1564
00:54:32,240 --> 00:54:36,079
this hobby is a great way to make new

1565
00:54:34,720 --> 00:54:36,839
friends too

1566
00:54:36,079 --> 00:54:40,480
yeah

1567
00:54:36,839 --> 00:54:42,640
so like going in with

1568
00:54:40,480 --> 00:54:43,839
yeah it's scary to go out you know and

1569
00:54:42,640 --> 00:54:45,599
play with a group of people that you've

1570
00:54:43,839 --> 00:54:47,119
never played with or have somebody

1571
00:54:45,599 --> 00:54:48,240
that's a complete stranger join in the

1572
00:54:47,119 --> 00:54:49,040
group

1573
00:54:48,240 --> 00:54:51,040
but

1574
00:54:49,040 --> 00:54:53,599
it's still like something that can be

1575
00:54:51,040 --> 00:54:55,440
very rewarding because new relationships

1576
00:54:53,599 --> 00:54:57,839
can grow from that

1577
00:54:55,440 --> 00:54:59,839
and the thing is like okay well

1578
00:54:57,839 --> 00:55:01,520
maybe it's because when this per then

1579
00:54:59,839 --> 00:55:03,839
you know somebody new joins the group it

1580
00:55:01,520 --> 00:55:05,599
may be that the group you were in was

1581
00:55:03,839 --> 00:55:06,400
kind of toxic but you know you didn't

1582
00:55:05,599 --> 00:55:08,559
really

1583
00:55:06,400 --> 00:55:09,920
either you didn't realize it or you were

1584
00:55:08,559 --> 00:55:11,920
kind of like oh well this is the only

1585
00:55:09,920 --> 00:55:13,599
thing in the area that's around

1586
00:55:11,920 --> 00:55:15,920
you know they're yeah they're the only

1587
00:55:13,599 --> 00:55:17,200
people i know that play d and d so you

1588
00:55:15,920 --> 00:55:19,359
kind of put up with it and it's not

1589
00:55:17,200 --> 00:55:21,440
until this new person joins and kind of

1590
00:55:19,359 --> 00:55:24,240
you know maybe they join in and suddenly

1591
00:55:21,440 --> 00:55:25,280
the way you you're able to see the dm

1592
00:55:24,240 --> 00:55:27,599
react

1593
00:55:25,280 --> 00:55:29,440
you know interact with somebody new

1594
00:55:27,599 --> 00:55:31,440
that isn't their friend you realize okay

1595
00:55:29,440 --> 00:55:32,480
hold on that's kind of

1596
00:55:31,440 --> 00:55:34,480
awful

1597
00:55:32,480 --> 00:55:36,000
or you know

1598
00:55:34,480 --> 00:55:37,440
or you know maybe or suddenly you're

1599
00:55:36,000 --> 00:55:38,880
like you you know the players that

1600
00:55:37,440 --> 00:55:40,720
you're with they you know they're not

1601
00:55:38,880 --> 00:55:42,880
really playing the kind of game that you

1602
00:55:40,720 --> 00:55:44,799
enjoy but you still play with them

1603
00:55:42,880 --> 00:55:46,400
because it's the only game you've got

1604
00:55:44,799 --> 00:55:48,640
and somebody else comes in that has a

1605
00:55:46,400 --> 00:55:50,400
play style very close to yours

1606
00:55:48,640 --> 00:55:52,240
and maybe through them they introduce

1607
00:55:50,400 --> 00:55:54,640
you to more people

1608
00:55:52,240 --> 00:55:55,440
or you know there's a lot of

1609
00:55:54,640 --> 00:55:57,359
the

1610
00:55:55,440 --> 00:55:59,520
the big problem i keep seeing with

1611
00:55:57,359 --> 00:56:01,119
people is that oh well you know i really

1612
00:55:59,520 --> 00:56:03,359
want to learn how to play

1613
00:56:01,119 --> 00:56:05,359
but i don't know anybody that plays or

1614
00:56:03,359 --> 00:56:08,000
there's you know you know none of my

1615
00:56:05,359 --> 00:56:09,359
friends want to do that i'm like well

1616
00:56:08,000 --> 00:56:11,680
sometimes you have to go out and jump

1617
00:56:09,359 --> 00:56:12,480
off the jump you know jump into the deep

1618
00:56:11,680 --> 00:56:15,119
end

1619
00:56:12,480 --> 00:56:17,200
you know find your local game store or

1620
00:56:15,119 --> 00:56:19,920
you know play online with some people

1621
00:56:17,200 --> 00:56:21,599
and you know you you never know

1622
00:56:19,920 --> 00:56:24,000
what kind of friendships you can get

1623
00:56:21,599 --> 00:56:25,520
what kind of um you know life

1624
00:56:24,000 --> 00:56:26,960
experiences you can get from interacting

1625
00:56:25,520 --> 00:56:27,839
with different people different walks of

1626
00:56:26,960 --> 00:56:28,799
life

1627
00:56:27,839 --> 00:56:31,760
i mean

1628
00:56:28,799 --> 00:56:32,880
there are even the the games that i

1629
00:56:31,760 --> 00:56:34,559
listen to

1630
00:56:32,880 --> 00:56:36,640
online like some of the podcasts they

1631
00:56:34,559 --> 00:56:37,680
also have people from multiple different

1632
00:56:36,640 --> 00:56:40,079
countries

1633
00:56:37,680 --> 00:56:41,520
that are you know all together

1634
00:56:40,079 --> 00:56:43,200
talking to each other

1635
00:56:41,520 --> 00:56:45,520
and playing in the same game and it's

1636
00:56:43,200 --> 00:56:47,200
like you you never especially in this

1637
00:56:45,520 --> 00:56:48,720
age of online

1638
00:56:47,200 --> 00:56:50,480
interaction

1639
00:56:48,720 --> 00:56:51,440
you can connect with so many different

1640
00:56:50,480 --> 00:56:54,079
people

1641
00:56:51,440 --> 00:56:56,480
through this common interest

1642
00:56:54,079 --> 00:56:59,119
and it's it's an amazing tool you just

1643
00:56:56,480 --> 00:57:01,119
have to be willing to go out and take

1644
00:56:59,119 --> 00:57:03,119
the little bit of risks to build that

1645
00:57:01,119 --> 00:57:05,599
new relationship

1646
00:57:03,119 --> 00:57:06,799
well perfect so thank you for that

1647
00:57:05,599 --> 00:57:08,799
it's

1648
00:57:06,799 --> 00:57:11,359
absolutely true and now well

1649
00:57:08,799 --> 00:57:12,400
as you were talking i was thinking like

1650
00:57:11,359 --> 00:57:13,520
i did

1651
00:57:12,400 --> 00:57:15,680
join

1652
00:57:13,520 --> 00:57:18,079
one game where

1653
00:57:15,680 --> 00:57:19,040
i only knew one person and all the rest

1654
00:57:18,079 --> 00:57:20,240
were

1655
00:57:19,040 --> 00:57:22,960
their friend close friends and

1656
00:57:20,240 --> 00:57:24,720
colleagues we were playing in person so

1657
00:57:22,960 --> 00:57:26,559
i had an inn it wasn't just as

1658
00:57:24,720 --> 00:57:29,359
completely cold open but and they

1659
00:57:26,559 --> 00:57:31,440
invited me to join and uh

1660
00:57:29,359 --> 00:57:33,760
we turned i was the first one to turn up

1661
00:57:31,440 --> 00:57:34,880
at the hosts and then the dm's house and

1662
00:57:33,760 --> 00:57:37,040
i was like

1663
00:57:34,880 --> 00:57:39,119
damn really wish the

1664
00:57:37,040 --> 00:57:40,400
the social glue was here to smooth this

1665
00:57:39,119 --> 00:57:41,599
out because now i'm just kind of like

1666
00:57:40,400 --> 00:57:43,520
hey

1667
00:57:41,599 --> 00:57:45,280
i'm in your home and

1668
00:57:43,520 --> 00:57:47,760
you don't know me and i'm here to sit in

1669
00:57:45,280 --> 00:57:50,720
your house and drink your drinks for

1670
00:57:47,760 --> 00:57:53,359
uh six hours but uh now that is you know

1671
00:57:50,720 --> 00:57:55,520
i still play with those guys to this day

1672
00:57:53,359 --> 00:57:58,240
and um very close friends with them and

1673
00:57:55,520 --> 00:57:59,280
that was that was from nothing to

1674
00:57:58,240 --> 00:58:01,040
you know with talking about planning

1675
00:57:59,280 --> 00:58:03,440
holidays and stuff together so uh no

1676
00:58:01,040 --> 00:58:05,359
that's that's absolutely right and uh

1677
00:58:03,440 --> 00:58:08,480
very wholesome way to round out the

1678
00:58:05,359 --> 00:58:09,920
episode uh that is unless of course you

1679
00:58:08,480 --> 00:58:11,680
had anything specific that you wanted to

1680
00:58:09,920 --> 00:58:15,200
cover that we might not have

1681
00:58:11,680 --> 00:58:17,119
got to yet no i i think from from the

1682
00:58:15,200 --> 00:58:19,200
various ramblings i think we've covered

1683
00:58:17,119 --> 00:58:21,680
basically um

1684
00:58:19,200 --> 00:58:24,640
uh everything that i could talk about

1685
00:58:21,680 --> 00:58:24,640
that's pertinent

1686
00:58:25,440 --> 00:58:30,000
i don't think that that i mean yes but

1687
00:58:28,000 --> 00:58:31,920
also like i could i love talking about

1688
00:58:30,000 --> 00:58:32,960
this kind of stuff for days and you know

1689
00:58:31,920 --> 00:58:34,000
there's

1690
00:58:32,960 --> 00:58:35,680
we could talk about the you know the

1691
00:58:34,000 --> 00:58:37,839
interesting dynamic between dms and

1692
00:58:35,680 --> 00:58:40,720
players and that kind of unique

1693
00:58:37,839 --> 00:58:42,240
relationship there you know frenemies to

1694
00:58:40,720 --> 00:58:45,119
a certain extent all that kind of stuff

1695
00:58:42,240 --> 00:58:46,880
so um there's definitely a lot more

1696
00:58:45,119 --> 00:58:50,240
there perhaps we're around two one day

1697
00:58:46,880 --> 00:58:52,480
we'll never we'll never know

1698
00:58:50,240 --> 00:58:53,760
but no so um

1699
00:58:52,480 --> 00:58:54,960
is there a

1700
00:58:53,760 --> 00:58:56,960
last part of the show is there anything

1701
00:58:54,960 --> 00:58:59,599
you would like to promote

1702
00:58:56,960 --> 00:59:02,319
uh well obviously of course promoting um

1703
00:58:59,599 --> 00:59:03,599
my podcast a sundered world it can be

1704
00:59:02,319 --> 00:59:07,119
found

1705
00:59:03,599 --> 00:59:08,319
pretty much every major podcast platform

1706
00:59:07,119 --> 00:59:10,079
itunes

1707
00:59:08,319 --> 00:59:12,319
stitcher google

1708
00:59:10,079 --> 00:59:14,880
spotify

1709
00:59:12,319 --> 00:59:17,040
we do have a patreon i keep links to it

1710
00:59:14,880 --> 00:59:19,200
in all the show notes of all my episodes

1711
00:59:17,040 --> 00:59:21,920
the patreon is to go towards like the

1712
00:59:19,200 --> 00:59:23,599
actual production of this

1713
00:59:21,920 --> 00:59:24,799
rpg setting

1714
00:59:23,599 --> 00:59:26,400
um

1715
00:59:24,799 --> 00:59:28,240
you know i i release

1716
00:59:26,400 --> 00:59:31,520
i'm actually behind but i release

1717
00:59:28,240 --> 00:59:33,280
lorecast as part of the patreon

1718
00:59:31,520 --> 00:59:35,680
there is the stump water tails which is

1719
00:59:33,280 --> 00:59:36,640
our side podcast basically like our

1720
00:59:35,680 --> 00:59:38,640
first

1721
00:59:36,640 --> 00:59:40,880
um the first season of this of the stump

1722
00:59:38,640 --> 00:59:42,720
water tails is also available as bonus

1723
00:59:40,880 --> 00:59:45,520
content for on the main

1724
00:59:42,720 --> 00:59:47,119
line but then you also now that the

1725
00:59:45,520 --> 00:59:49,200
that the rest of the episodes will be

1726
00:59:47,119 --> 00:59:53,280
available through patreon

1727
00:59:49,200 --> 00:59:56,799
um i have a book that can be found

1728
00:59:53,280 --> 01:00:00,079
on amazon unbalanced scales is the

1729
00:59:56,799 --> 01:00:03,440
is the title of it it is more lore about

1730
01:00:00,079 --> 01:00:05,040
the earth it's it's set in that world

1731
01:00:03,440 --> 01:00:07,760
it's about

1732
01:00:05,040 --> 01:00:10,240
basically a group of mercenaries turned

1733
01:00:07,760 --> 01:00:12,079
archaeology basically turned uh kind of

1734
01:00:10,240 --> 01:00:14,079
indiana jones style treasure hunters

1735
01:00:12,079 --> 01:00:14,960
they were contra they find stumble upon

1736
01:00:14,079 --> 01:00:17,520
something

1737
01:00:14,960 --> 01:00:21,040
get contracted by a collector to find

1738
01:00:17,520 --> 01:00:23,200
the rest of the of a similar set and end

1739
01:00:21,040 --> 01:00:25,040
up finding out that there's a lot more

1740
01:00:23,200 --> 01:00:26,240
to this than they bargained for or ever

1741
01:00:25,040 --> 01:00:28,559
wanted

1742
01:00:26,240 --> 01:00:32,000
i also have a discord

1743
01:00:28,559 --> 01:00:33,920
for not just fans of the show

1744
01:00:32,000 --> 01:00:35,839
that is also for you know any

1745
01:00:33,920 --> 01:00:38,319
like-minded people to come and discuss d

1746
01:00:35,839 --> 01:00:41,920
d discuss the podcast discuss the world

1747
01:00:38,319 --> 01:00:44,559
of beuth um you know i run one shots

1748
01:00:41,920 --> 01:00:45,760
there just to help new people or to help

1749
01:00:44,559 --> 01:00:48,319
people like

1750
01:00:45,760 --> 01:00:51,200
experience different tabletop rpgs

1751
01:00:48,319 --> 01:00:53,599
outside of d d because sometimes people

1752
01:00:51,200 --> 01:00:55,280
like the tabletop experience but d d

1753
01:00:53,599 --> 01:00:57,280
isn't their thing they're a lot of

1754
01:00:55,280 --> 01:00:59,520
different systems but then it also

1755
01:00:57,280 --> 01:01:01,520
exposes them to different ideas and

1756
01:00:59,520 --> 01:01:04,000
gives them hopefully gives them ideas

1757
01:01:01,520 --> 01:01:06,480
for their own games and that's why i try

1758
01:01:04,000 --> 01:01:08,000
to do this stuff thank you absolutely

1759
01:01:06,480 --> 01:01:10,480
and likewise

1760
01:01:08,000 --> 01:01:12,720
